Plaza de Armas is not just the main square, but the true heart of the city of Arequipa, located in Peru. This is where the acquaintance with this amazing place, often called the "White City", begins. Arequipa owes its nickname to the unique sillar volcanic stone, from which many historical buildings are constructed, giving them a noble light hue.
The square is surrounded by majestic arcaded buildings in the Mestizo architectural style, where Spanish colonial and local motifs are harmoniously intertwined. The main focal point of the architectural ensemble is the impressive Cathedral, occupying an entire side of the square. It looks especially beautiful in the rays of the setting sun.
A fountain with a bronze figure of "Tuturutu" is located in the center of the square. According to legend, this character was a messenger soldier in the 16th century, and today his statue has become one of the symbols of the city. It is a favorite meeting spot for both locals and tourists, always filled with a lively and friendly atmosphere.
