Winter in Koshu, from December to February, is quite cold, with average temperatures hovering around 0°C and nighttime lows often dropping below freezing. Spring and autumn are pleasant transition periods with mild and comfortable weather. Summer, especially in July and August, is warm and humid, with average temperatures above 22°C. A characteristic feature of the summer months is the high number of rainy days, indicating a rainy season, so tourists should be prepared for frequent, though not always heavy, rainfall.

The climate in Koshu is characterized by distinct seasonality and significant temperature fluctuations throughout the year. The coldest month is January, when the average temperature is about 0.0°C and nighttime frosts can reach -3.9°C. Conversely, the heat peaks in August, which is considered the hottest month with an average temperature of 23.1°C and daytime highs reaching a comfortable 26.7°C.

Winter in Koshu is cool; from December to February, average daytime temperatures range from 4°C to 6°C, and nights are consistently frosty. The summer months, from June to August, are characterized by warm and pleasant weather. Daytime temperatures during this period stay in the range of 22°C to 27°C, while nights remain warm, with minimums around 14–19°C, creating ideal conditions for evening strolls.

Spring and autumn are comfortable transitional seasons. In spring, the temperature gradually rises from a cool 5°C in March to a pleasant 14°C in May. In autumn, the reverse process occurs: from a warm September (averaging 19.5°C) to a cool November (7.8°C). Koshu's climate is characterized by a noticeable difference between daytime and nighttime temperatures, especially during the shoulder seasons, when the drop can be around 10 degrees. Koshu experiences a distinct seasonality in precipitation, which is more evident in the frequency of rainy days than in their intensity. Overall, the climate is characterized by humid summers and drier winters.

The wettest period falls during the summer months. The peak of the rainy season occurs in July and August. Although July leads in total rainfall volume (8 mm), August is the month with the highest number of rainy days—averaging 23 days. From June to September, precipitation is frequent, occurring about 20–22 days per month, so it's worth being prepared for frequent, though not always heavy, rain.

Winter, by contrast, is the driest time of year. December is the driest month both in terms of rainfall volume (only 1 mm) and the number of wet days (about 7). January and February also feature low precipitation. Given that average temperatures during this period hover around 0°C and nighttime frosts are common, winter precipitation most often falls as snow.

When planning a trip to Koshu, it's important to choose the right wardrobe to stay comfortable in any weather. The key principle is layering. The weather here can be changeable, so the ability to remove or add an extra layer of clothing will come in very handy. Regardless of the season, be sure to bring comfortable walking shoes, as you will likely be walking a lot while exploring the picturesque surroundings.

In the summer months, from June to August, the weather in Koshu is warm but with a high probability of precipitation. You should pack light, breathable clothing made of cotton or linen, as well as sunscreen and a hat. Given the high number of rainy days, a reliable umbrella or a lightweight waterproof jacket will be an indispensable accessory. Winter, from December to February, is cold here, with temperatures dropping below freezing. You will need a warm winter jacket, sweaters, thermal underwear, as well as a hat, scarf, and gloves to protect against the frost.

Spring (March–May) and autumn (September–November) are transitional seasons with moderate but unstable temperatures. Layered clothing is ideal during this time: T-shirts, long-sleeved shirts, light sweaters, and a mid-weight jacket that can be removed during a warm afternoon.
