How to get to Atsugi

Located in Kanagawa Prefecture, Atsugi serves as an excellent starting point for exploring the region and trips to the picturesque Tanzawa Mountains. This Japanese city, situated in close proximity to the capital, offers travellers a blend of urban infrastructure and access to nature. You can reach Atsugi in various ways: from taking a high-speed train or bus to travelling by rental car.

Since the city does not have its own airport, the air hubs of the neighbouring metropolis serve as the gateway for travellers. It is most convenient to fly into Tokyo, located just 37 km away: the capital's Haneda and Narita airports receive flights from all over the world and have excellent connections to the region. You can also consider flying via Shizuoka (103 km) if this route fits your plans better, although the Tokyo direction remains the most popular.

Rail transport is one of the most convenient ways to get to the city, as the major Hon-Atsugi station operates here. Travellers can easily get here by a direct train on the Odakyu line from the central Shinjuku district in the city of Tokyo, making the trip fast and comfortable. If you are travelling from other regions, for example, via Shizuoka or Toyota, you may need to transfer to lines leading to this transport hub.

Bus services in this region of Japan are highly developed, offering tourists a comfortable alternative to trains. Regular intercity express buses frequently run from major transport terminals in neighbouring Tokyo, delivering passengers to the city centre. This can be a convenient option if you are travelling with bulky luggage or want to enjoy views of the Japanese countryside from the bus window.

Travelling by car gives you freedom of movement, and the shortest route runs from Tokyo: the distance of 54 km can be covered in about 1 hour via the expressway. If you are heading from the direction of Shizuoka city, the road will take about 1.8 hours (132 km), and the journey from the city of Toyota, covering 194 km, will require about 2.9 hours.

Taxis in Japan provide impeccable service, but it is worth noting that fares for intercity trips can be quite high.
