Where to go in January 2026
We hasten to remind you of a well-known winter saying: “As you meet the New Year, so you will spend it.” You can start your 2026 with a trip, not a dull work call. Imagine: instead of colleagues' names, you recall the names of countries you've visited, and your social media is full of vibrant photos from your trip.
Well, for those lucky ones who stumbled upon this article, there's no need to even fantasize. Because now we'll tell you how to organize a great winter vacation and which countries to choose for it.

Beach Holiday in January 2026
Don't write off the second month of winter. January, of all months, is best suited for sea travel. Air temperatures in hot countries drop to +25–30 degrees Celsius, and there are significantly fewer tourists. Here are a couple of destinations where a vacant spot on the beach is already waiting for you.
Vietnam
To Vietnam – definitely for pho-bo, spring rolls, and spicy noodles. And also for incredible views and creative solutions (for example, the “Hands of God Bridge” in Da Nang or the Dali elephants on Phu Quoc).
If you want to get acquainted with modern Asian culture, head to Ho Chi Minh City, a city of motorcycles and neon lights. But if your soul yearns for something more measured and down-to-earth, we recommend Ha Long Bay.

Sri Lanka
Pros of a trip to Sri Lanka: delicious tea (you haven't tasted anything better, believe us); talkative locals (you'll learn so much during your vacation); that iconic train from all the creative photos; and the cherry on top – you can go to the sea without a visa.
Cons of a trip to Sri Lanka: there are none.
Dominican Republic
The Dominican Republic not only sounds cool but also looks it. Beach lovers and SPF enthusiasts will especially enjoy it here. If you are one, Saona Island is for you. Firstly, it's warm in January (air temperature rises to +25 degrees, sometimes even +30!), and secondly, it's very, very difficult not to be impressed by the views straight out of a Bounty commercial.
Besides the Caribbean Sea, the country also surprises with its historical sights. The best place to hunt for them is Santo Domingo: there are many Catholic cathedrals and cozy streets serving Italian and Latin American dishes. By the way, in the south of the country, in Oviedo Lagoon, pink flamingos live. Where else but here can you see them in January?

Maldives
It's hard not to know about the Maldives. Whether they are deservedly loved or not is up to you. You can go for an independent assessment any time of the year. After all, it's the best destination where you can relax in January, August, and, in principle, always. Just be sure to book your hotel and buy tickets on Kupi.com in advance: from December to April, the islands experience the biggest rush, and there are plenty of people eager to dive into the Indian Ocean.
Zanzibar
It's one thing to spend evenings in bed watching cat videos, and quite another to relax in a sun lounger somewhere in southeastern Zanzibar. Agree, there's a difference. Besides, not everyone can boast that they've set foot on Freddie Mercury's homeland.
Of interest: the turtle island, which will appeal to both you and your children. The reptiles there are truly enormous. If you buy an entrance ticket, you can even feed them.

Goa
No article that helps you decide where to fly in January is complete without Goa. This Indian state combines two opposite things: parties and creativity in the north, and a more relaxed holiday in the south. What to choose is up to you. However, regardless of your final decision, you can ride elephants, meditate, or visit markets in both areas. By the way, we highly recommend the city of Panaji. Its Fontainhas quarter with colorful Portuguese-style houses is something special!
Thailand
Thailand is a popular option where to go in January. The destination is well-known, and you won't have visa problems if you stay for up to 30 days. However, difficulties might arise much earlier, for example, during the booking stage. That's when you'll realize that not everything is smooth and perfect. After all, from November to March is peak season, and hotel rooms are snapped up like hotcakes. Unfortunately, you're not the only one who wants to try fresh fruits and swim in the Indian Ocean. So, look for tickets and accommodation in advance.
Canary Islands
The Canary Islands are a destination with an asterisk: unlike the previous ones, you'll need a Schengen visa to enter. So, happy visa holders, we're very happy for you, though not wholeheartedly, as they say...
By the way, the islands are the only place in Europe where you can swim in the Atlantic Ocean all year round. So, lucky ones, don't miss this opportunity, as well as the chance to climb Mount Teide. It's dormant (so you can breathe easy), but climbing it takes a long time. However, at the end, a pleasant reward awaits you: clouds float beneath your feet, and in the distance are fabulous views, the ocean, and beaches. Isn't this what we all lack so much?
UAE
Recently, the United Arab Emirates has become a classic destination. Yes, it's a 'something for the rich' kind of vacation, but the memories will be as precious as Moscow-Dubai tickets... However, wow, surprise! On our website, you can fly to your dream vacation for 12,000 rubles (sometimes even at a pleasant price of 10,000 rubles). Well, that's just between us.
Cuba
It's high season in Cuba all winter. So, there's simply no better decision than to spend your January vacation on the island. Among the truly great beaches, we recommend Varadero, Santa Maria del Mar, and Ancon. The latter is loved by travelers for its cleanliness, endlessness, and turquoise water.
Cuba is beautiful not only for its beaches. We recommend taking a stroll through Viñales Valley Park or the Ciénaga de Zapata Biosphere Reserve at least once. Entry is usually free (you'll only have to pay for viewing specific attractions). However, we recommend visiting as part of tourist groups. This way, it's harder to get lost, and you can learn something new.

Venezuela
A rather exotic option is to choose Venezuela as a place to go to the sea in January. Most often, tourists fly to the island with the beautiful name Margarita. It is located in the southern Caribbean Sea. There, they try fresh fruits, drink delicious cocktails, and generally enjoy life.
Los Roques archipelago would also be a good option. Like Margarita, it is located in the Caribbean Sea. However, flying there will take a little longer. Fortunately, tourists are brought from Venezuela to the archipelago several times a week (the main thing is not to miss it).
Mauritius
Even in winter, the weather in Mauritius is ideal for a beach holiday. It's not cold here, nor is it particularly hot (average temperature +17 degrees Celsius). Especially if you go into the water. By the way, about the water: the island's underwater waterfall is both frightening and impressive. Even those who have never been afraid of heights will feel their knees tremble at the sight of such an optical illusion. We hasten to reassure you: it's just a visual effect. Moreover, to see it, you'll have to pay a decent sum. On the other hand, a photo from there will definitely impress all your friends and colleagues on social media.
Philippines
The Philippines are so sunny and bright that upon returning home, you will definitely remember these islands for a long time. You can even see fish in the crystal-clear water. Many hotels sometimes offer their guests a small boat tour: to see underwater inhabitants and admire the sea.
It's hard to believe, but if you get tired of the white sandy beaches, we recommend visiting Manila. In some areas of the capital, 16th-century architectural structures still remain, such as the Cathedral and Fort Santiago.

Indonesia
Indonesia is famous for its spicy rice and pork dishes. So, we welcome all gourmets and advise you to start looking for tickets now. Another plus to the delicious experience is the visa, which is obtained upon arrival. In short, if you've been racking your brain about where to fly, take note. Getting to Indonesia is quite easy.
Vacation in Russia in January
If you don't feel like going to the beach, but your heart yearns for a vacation – go travel around Russia.
Saint Petersburg
Saint Petersburg in winter and Saint Petersburg in summer are two different cities on the Neva. The cultural capital transforms: garlands light up, and there are many interesting events and exhibitions everywhere. In short, everything that will appeal to both adults and children.
At the beginning of the year, near the Peter and Paul Fortress, you can see the frozen Neva, and during walks along Nevsky Prospekt, you might stumble upon a cozy coffee shop. If you want to go ice skating, you definitely need to visit 'Sevkabel Port'. A few creative exhibitions, hot drinks – and, voilà, a good mood for the whole day is guaranteed!
«Krasnaya Polyana»
Even if you're not into skiing, you've probably heard of «Krasnaya Polyana». In January, everything here is wonderful – from the snowpark to the atmosphere of an evening dinner with music. There are fairs, mulled wine, sweets, and the spirit of European Christmas all around. In short, a real celebration.
After an active day out, hotels offer swimming in outdoor pools and relaxing in the spa. Even if you've never skied or held a snowboard – don't worry, there are plenty of instructors for all ages.

Karelia
Snow-covered forests, snowmobiling, skiing, hot tea in a rented cabin. In short, Karelia is simply made for a cool winter vacation. If you're traveling with children, you can visit Talvi Ukko, the residence of the Karelian Father Frost. Another good idea is to visit Kizhi Island. In January, there are fewer tourists here, but Kizhi looks even more majestic than in summer.
Karachay-Cherkessia
An alternative to the more expensive and Europeanized «Krasnaya Polyana». «Dombay» is in no way inferior to its competitor from Sochi in terms of service. Instead, it proudly bears the title of the republic's coolest ski resort. There are easy slopes for beginners and challenging slopes for advanced skiers.
Besides active recreation, you can visit the Southern Elephant Cave or take a walk in the vicinity of Arkhyz. The easiest way to get here is from Mineralnye Vody, and from there by taxi or bus to Cherkessk or Dombayskaya Polyana.
Kamchatka
Definitely an option for the brave. Not everyone is ready to trade warm Thailand for chilly Kamchatka. However, if your soul craves new adventures and the cold is no obstacle, then this destination is for you.
Amidst smoking geysers and snow-white expanses, you will fall in love with life anew. Perhaps you'll even want to conquer a few mountains, inspired by those you see in the area. By the way, rumor has it that if you visit Kamchatka once, you'll definitely want to return. Will you check it out?

Family Vacations in January
Little travelers can see snow at home. So here's our top 3 international destinations where you can go with a child.
Egypt
Egypt is sunny all year round, making it an ideal destination for family vacations. The country has a large number of all-inclusive hotels. This means you don't need to search for restaurants or places to eat – everything has been thought of and done for you (great!).
Hotel owners often offer families joint leisure activities, such as sea excursions, sometimes water parks, and even safaris! If you're traveling with a teenager, booking a tour of the pyramids and pharaohs' tombs would be the best decision. The desert in January doesn't suffer from high temperatures, which will make the walk a pure pleasure.

Turkey
In winter, Turkey is cool – from +15 to +20 degrees Celsius. Therefore, we recommend choosing Antalya or Bodrum (they are the warmest). Besides entertainment within hotel grounds, you can go into the city. For example, Antalya has a large oceanarium with fish of various colors and sizes. Bodrum will delight young explorers at the Museum of Underwater Archaeology. Rest assured, children will definitely be thrilled.
Morocco
Generally, Morocco is not considered a country ideally suited for family vacations. There aren't that many entertainment options for children here. However, with a well-planned travel itinerary, this can be remedied.
If you're planning a vacation with a baby, keep in mind that walking with a stroller through narrow streets is not very convenient. In that case, we recommend limiting your vacation to a beach area somewhere in Agadir. However, older children will find it interesting to take a hot air balloon tour or go on a camel ride.
By the way, in Rabat, the capital of Morocco, there is the Oasiria water park, which can impress your inner child with interesting slides and beautiful views. So grab a pencil and plan some cool activities for the whole family. You definitely won't be disappointed.
Where to Go in January in Europe
Why not try starting the new year somewhere abroad? Good question! We're sharing a few options for a great vacation.
Serbia
From mid-November, garlands light up the streets of Serbia, a festive atmosphere hangs in the air, and there are many fairs around. Celebrations will continue until mid-January: there's Christmas, and Old New Year... In short, pure fun!
For active holiday enthusiasts, we recommend the Kopaonik ski resort. And for anyone wishing to arrange a gastronomic tour, we strongly recommend visiting Skadarska Street in Belgrade. There are a large number of restaurants with national dishes. So many choices!
Montenegro
In Montenegro, you can escape sub-zero temperatures and enjoy a pleasant European winter somewhere by the sea with a cup of delicious coffee in hand. What else to do: explore old towns (Budva, Herceg Novi, Bar), stroll through narrow streets, visit churches and monasteries, eat grilled fish.
And you can also ski in Montenegro! The main ski resorts are «Kolašin» and «Žabljak». It's inexpensive here (definitely cheaper than in Switzerland), and the views and service are no worse. In short, if you haven't got a Schengen visa yet, take a look at Montenegro's resorts.

Albania
Unfortunately, it's too cold in winter to swim in one of Albania's seas. The temperature drops to +14 degrees Celsius, forcing you to abandon this idea. But there are many great alternatives. For example, go to the mountains or visit the capital – the city of Tirana. In January, there will still be a Christmas tree in the main square. Without snow, though (it's too warm for it here).
In general, the country is ideal for those who are tired of endless beaches and want to get to Europe as soon as possible.
Hungary
Dedicated to happy Schengen visa holders. Hungary has many festivals and fairs that last throughout January (and sometimes even February). If you've wandered enough through the small streets and are tired of spending money, head straight to the Szechenyi Baths in Budapest. It's one of the largest bath complexes in Europe, and it's also very beautiful (just Google it). Other things to do: go ice skating in Városliget Park or visit the «Mátra» ski resort.
Where to Go in January Without a Visa
Here are a few more options where you can go without long waits from the visa center.
Argentina
Each traveler can spend up to 90 days in Argentina. All you need is a passport and a return ticket.
Walking through numerous museums and theaters will be a great pastime. Even if you planned a trip for a couple of weeks, this will be more than enough to immerse yourself in the country's vibrant atmosphere. Oh, and don't forget about shopping! A paradise for book lovers is the El Ateneo Grand Splendid store, where bookshelves are arranged in several rows and there's even a small stage where live music is performed.
Tunisia
Unfortunately, the Mediterranean Sea does not greet tourists very warmly in January. The water temperature barely exceeds +13 degrees Celsius. Only desperate «walruses» who enjoy swimming in the Gulf of Finland might dare to take a dip. However, you can ride camels or explore the ruins of the ancient city of Carthage. Fortunately, the heat won't be an obstacle (as it simply isn't there).
By the way, the entry stamp is placed free of charge upon arrival. All you need to have with you is a return ticket.

Armenia
Winter in Armenia is mild: air temperature here ranges from 0 to –5 degrees Celsius. All main attractions are accessible; the main thing is to dress warmly. If you're going to explore churches, museums, and local restaurants, head to Yerevan, and if you want to relax somewhere in a spa, choose the «Jermuk» resort. People come here to drink healing water, go downhill skiing, and admire the snow-covered Arpi Gorge, which is protected by UNESCO.
Now you definitely won't be bored in January. All that's left is to choose your tickets and have a fantastic vacation!
