Where to go in August
We've put together a guide for everyone wondering where to fly in August. From visa-free trips abroad to beach holidays within Russia – we've gathered ideas for every taste.

Popular August Holiday Destinations
Turkey
Turkey is the most popular destination among Russians when it comes to where to go in August. In late summer, Turkey is warm, and the sea heats up to +30 degrees – ideal for a beach holiday. Plus, no visa is needed!
The main resorts of Turkey are located on the Aegean and Mediterranean coasts. Tourists' favorite cities on the Aegean Sea are Bodrum, Marmaris, Fethiye. The main Mediterranean resorts are Kemer, Antalya, Belek, Alanya.
Getting to Turkey is easy: there are direct flights from Russia, and the flight is fast and affordable. You can take a ticket to Antalya and get from there to your chosen resort by bus, or go to Istanbul and transfer to the necessary domestic flight.
Montenegro
Inexpensive, visa-free, warm – that's how you can describe a holiday in Montenegro in August. The weather at this time is comfortable, and the water warms up to +26 degrees. Montenegro offers plenty of resorts along the Adriatic to choose from: lively and noisy Budva, quiet Petrovac, cozy Ulcinj, or budget-friendly Tivat.
As a bonus, you can take a couple of days for excursions to neighboring visa-free countries, such as Serbia. But note: August is a popular month and is considered peak season – book your accommodation in advance. Moreover, electronic music festivals take place at this time, and Kotor hosts a summer carnival in August – these are a few more reasons to visit the country at the end of summer and think about booking a hotel in advance, as there will be many people wishing to come.
Maldives
Although they say it's off-season in the Maldives in summer, it's still not the same as off-season in Russia. Even if it rains on the islands, it quickly gives way to clear skies and warming sun. Therefore, this option for where to go to the sea in August should not be dismissed. Especially since the water here warms up to +30 degrees – what more could you need?
Abkhazia
Tourists vacationing on the Black Sea coast choose Abkhazia for short but rich trips. The sea at the end of August warms up to +28 degrees, but there's plenty to see here besides the beaches. In Abkhazia, you should visit the New Athos Monastery, Lake Ritsa, Pyv Pass, Sukhumi Botanical Garden. Tourist groups regularly travel from Sochi to Abkhazia for a day trip – join if you're interested.

Cyprus
If you're thinking about where to fly to the sea in August, consider Cyprus. August in Cyprus is a hot, dry, and windless month: air temperature rises to +31 degrees, and water to +28. At this time, the most popular resorts – Limassol, Nicosia, Ayia Napa, Paphos, Larnaca – are full of tourists from all over the world. Cyprus attracts Russians with its infrastructure, service, and European vibe.
Since there's no scorching (and therefore dangerous) sun in the morning, we recommend visiting the beach before lunch. After 4 PM, numerous cafes and restaurants with live music open, so there will be entertainment for the evening and even night. Moreover, Limassol hosts a wine festival in August, and Paphos hosts an opera festival. You won't get bored!
Vietnam
Although summer in Vietnam is the rainy season, Nha Trang is suitable for an August holiday: there are only three to five rainy days for the entire month. Since the weather is hot, up to +35 degrees, short tropical showers are only refreshing.
Besides swimming and beach chilling, Vietnam is great for diving and snorkeling, trying exotic fruits, and eating cheap seafood. In Nha Trang, you can visit Vinpearl Land park with a water park, aquarium, and singing fountains, or go to the ancient Po Nagar towers or Ba Ho waterfall.
Where to Go Without a Visa
Egypt
Egypt is one of the most popular ideas for where to go to the sea without a visa. The destination is in demand among Russians both in winter and summer. In August, it's, frankly, scorching here: water temperature reaches +30 degrees, and air temperature even +40. Excursions and trips to the pyramids under the open sun can be exhausting, but a lazy all-inclusive holiday by a cool pool is just right. For entertainment, it's worth choosing something refreshing: diving, a water park, or swimming with dolphins.
UAE
In August, trips to Dubai and Abu Dhabi are rare: the street in the Emirates experiences 40-degree heat, and the water temperature is up to +35 degrees. Therefore, there are almost no tourists, and hotels are noticeably cheaper. It's a bit cooler in Fujairah – the water there is about +25 degrees. It's best to cool off by the pool and in water parks, and go for walks in the evening – in any case, the weather forecast will help you orient yourself.

Tunisia
Choose Tunisia if you're thinking about where to go abroad in August to lie on the beach and swim in warm 30-degree water. Thrill-seekers will find diving comfortable here, and excursion lovers will be impressed by the ruins of the ancient city of Carthage. At the end of summer, Tunisia is scorching hot – it's best to go through the list in advance and take everything you need for the sea, not forgetting sunscreen.
Where to Go in August in Russia
Moscow
Moscow is one of the obvious answers to the question of where to go on holiday in August. The weather in the last summer month is perfect for walks and excursions around the capital. At this time, it's great to explore sights like Red Square and the Tretyakov Gallery, or simply wander through the blooming city without a specific plan. Moscow's parks in August are super atmospheric, and on the Moskva River, you can take a boat or river tram and see the capital from the water. If you've already seen summer Moscow and Gorky Park doesn't surprise you, consider a trip along the Golden Ring – starting this route from the capital is quite comfortable.
Saint Petersburg
Another classic summer idea. At this time, St. Petersburg has a pleasant climate, and the Neva awaits tourists for breezy river cruises. After visiting the Hermitage and the Russian Museum, go for a walk along Nevsky Prospekt: admire the architecture and listen to street musicians, stopping only for a snack of traditional local 'pyshki' (donuts).

Caucasian Mineral Waters
The resort is two hundred years old, so this option for where to fly for a holiday in August should definitely not be dismissed – it has maintained its reputation for centuries. Come to Mineralnye Vody to recuperate at the springs and drink medicinal mineral water. However, this place is not about passive relaxation: here you can hike in the mountains, admire gorges and waterfalls. The region also has architectural sights to see: the Narzan Gallery in Kislovodsk, the Lermontov Gallery in Pyatigorsk, the mud bath in Essentuki.
Dagestan
For a diverse vacation, choose a holiday in Dagestan by the sea or in the mountains. The region is not yet as popular as, for example, the usual resorts of Krasnodar Krai, but every year more and more people come here to enjoy Caucasian hospitality.
You definitely won't be bored: there are hikes to waterfalls and caves, paragliding flights, and trips to the Sarykum dune. And Dagestan is also home to one of the oldest cities in the world – Derbent. If you want a quiet beach holiday, you can stay in Kaspiysk or Izberbash: the Caspian Sea there is the cleanest.

Kazan
Hot days, open verandas, walks around the main attractions – summer Kazan welcomes tourists with a relaxed vibe and warm atmosphere. At the end of August, the City Day and Republic Day are celebrated here, and August 30th is a holiday with large-scale festivities, fairs, and open-air events with fireworks at the end. After the celebrations, pay attention to the Chak-Chak Museum, the pre-revolutionary buildings in the Old Tatar Settlement, the Kazan Kremlin, the Temple of All Religions – a museum of all faiths.
August Holidays with Children
Sochi
A standard option for traveling with children within the country: take a plane ticket to Sochi and enjoy the velvet season on the Black Sea. With older children, you can go on an excursion, for example, to Stalin's dacha or the Ordzhonikidze sanatorium. And toddlers will appreciate the dolphinarium, oceanarium, water parks, and Harry Potter Museum.
Anapa
For a comfortable family holiday by the sea in August, come to Anapa: there are plenty of water parks and other water activities along the coastline for children. The entry into the water is gentle – even families with very young children come here. Conditions for children's holidays have long been created here: since Soviet times, summer camps have been concentrated in Anapa, and one of the city's main avenues is still called Pionersky (Pioneer).
Children will be curious to visit the crocodile farm, where they can feed over 50 alligators, the open-air dolphinarium, or the amusement park in the very center of the city. By the way, there's a Ferris wheel in the park – go there to admire Anapa from above.

Tula
In Tula, museums for the whole family, young and old, await you for every taste: gingerbread, samovars, and weapons. The city is suitable for both a weekend trip and a longer stay: if you stay for a few days, you'll definitely have time to explore the collections of local museums, catch the vibe of quiet streets, and walk along the embankment. Once the pastries are eaten and a photo with the Tula gingerbread monument is taken, head to the region – to study the life and work of Leo Tolstoy at the Yasnaya Polyana museum-reserve. The trip will definitely be remembered as extremely educational, especially for school-aged children.
