Can I travel without the original document?

If your travel document has been lost or is being replaced, whether you can travel using a different document depends on your nationality, itinerary, and the airline's requirements.

Which documents may be accepted?

In some cases, you may be able to travel with:

  • a temporary identity document;

  • an emergency travel document;

  • a certificate of return;

  • another travel document issued by government authorities or your country's consulate.

What should I do?

If you are outside your home country and no longer have the document required for your journey, contact your embassy or consulate as soon as possible. They can advise which document can be issued for your return home or onward travel.

Before travelling, make sure to:

  • check which document can be used for your trip;

  • confirm the requirements with the airline and relevant authorities;

  • ensure your ticket is issued using the same document you will present at the airport.
