St. Michael's Golden-Domed Monastery is one of the most majestic and iconic shrines in Kyiv, located in the heart of the capital of Ukraine. This active Orthodox men's monastery captures the imagination with its sky-blue walls and shining golden domes that rise majestically above the Dnipro River. Founded in the 12th century, it is not only an important spiritual center but also an outstanding architectural monument.

The monastery's history is full of dramatic events. The original church, founded in 1108, was one of the greatest in Ancient Rus. It was the first in Kyiv to have a gilded dome, which earned it the name "Golden-Domed." Unfortunately, the unique cathedral was destroyed in the 1930s. However, in the late 1990s, the shrine was reconstructed in its original form, and today it appears before visitors in all its glory, symbolizing the indomitability of faith and cultural heritage.
The architectural ensemble of the monastery is truly impressive. In addition to the main St. Michael's Cathedral, it includes a refectory with the Church of St. John the Evangelist, built in 1713, and a tall bell tower (1716–1719). Inside the cathedral, you can see magnificent mosaics and frescoes, some of which are exact copies of the original 12th-century paintings. A visit to the monastery is an opportunity to touch centuries of history and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of this holy place.
