Overview

Puerto de la Cruz in Spain boasts an exceptionally mild and stable climate throughout the year, which can be described as subtropical with semi-arid characteristics. Temperatures remain comfortable, avoiding extremes of heat or cold, making the city an attractive destination at any time of year.

The city experiences two main seasons: a warm and very dry summer and an even milder winter, when the chance of precipitation is slightly higher, though it remains insignificant. The summer months, especially from May to August, are characterized by abundant sunshine and an almost complete absence of rain, with average temperatures hovering around 19-22°C. In winter, temperatures only drop slightly, usually staying within the 15-18°C range. Although there may be slightly more rainy days during the winter months, the total amount of precipitation is extremely low.

One of the main features of the weather in Puerto de la Cruz is the consistently low level of rainfall. Even in months considered "wetter" (for example, January with 7 rainy days), the amount of rain is minimal – only about 1 mm. The period from May to August is almost entirely devoid of precipitation. This temperature predictability and low chance of rain make it an ideal place for those seeking pleasant weather conditions for their vacation.

The coolest months are January and February, with an average temperature of about 15.3-15.4°C; during these months, the minimum nighttime temperature drops to an average of 13.7-14.0°C.

The summer period, spanning from June to September, in Puerto de la Cruz is characterized by very comfortable warmth. Average temperatures during this time range from 19.1°C in June to peak values in August. During the day, the air warms up to 20.9-23.8°C, while nights remain pleasantly warm, with temperatures no lower than 17.3-19.8°C. Precipitation

Puerto de la Cruz experiences very low rainfall throughout the year, making it an attractive destination for those seeking mostly dry weather. There is no pronounced rainy season with heavy downpours; rather, there are periods with slightly more frequent but still insignificant precipitation.

The driest period occurs during the summer months. From May to August, rainfall is virtually zero. July and August stand out particularly, as only one day of precipitation is recorded on average for each. In May, there are an average of two rainy days, while in June, despite zero total rainfall, there can be up to four days with very light mist.

From September to April, precipitation remains minimal, usually not exceeding 1 mm per month. However, the frequency of rainy days increases slightly during these months. January is considered the month with the highest number of rainy days – an average of 7 days. February and December follow with about 6 rainy days each. In March, April, October, and November, there are usually about 5 days with light precipitation. It's important to note that even during these "wetter" periods, we are talking about light rain or drizzle rather than heavy showers. Snow is not characteristic of Puerto de la Cruz.

Packing Tips

When planning a trip to Puerto de la Cruz, it's worth considering its mild climate, which offers comfortable temperatures year-round. Average annual temperatures range from 15°C to 22°C, making it an attractive destination at any time. However, even with such pleasant figures, layering your clothes will be your best strategy. Evenings can be a bit cooler, especially in the winter months, and a light ocean breeze may require an extra layer. Be sure to bring comfortable walking shoes, as exploring the city's charming streets is a real pleasure.

During the summer months (June to September), when the average temperature stays around 19-22°C and the maximum can reach 24°C, you'll need light and breathable clothing: t-shirts, shorts, sundresses, and swimwear. Don't forget a hat, sunglasses, and high-SPF sunscreen, as the sun here is quite strong. Although rainfall is minimal during this time, a very light wrap or windbreaker might come in handy for evening strolls or the rare summer drizzle.

In the cooler period from October to April, average temperatures fluctuate between 15-20°C. October and November are generally warmer, with averages around 18-20°C, while from December to April, the temperature stays within 15-17°C. During this time, it's worth packing jeans or trousers, a few sweaters or fleece jackets, and a light jacket or windbreaker. Despite the data showing only 1 mm of rainfall per month, the number of "wet days" (from 5 to 7) suggests the possibility of short-lived showers. Therefore, a compact umbrella or a light raincoat will be very useful. Regardless of the season, remember that even in cloudy weather, UV radiation can be high, so sunscreen is relevant all year round.
