Packing Tips
When planning a trip to La Orotava, it's worth noting that the climate is quite mild and pleasant all year round. Temperatures range from a comfortable 15-17°C in the winter months to a warm 21-24°C in the summer. Rainfall is minimal throughout the year, averaging only about 1 mm per month, and during the summer months (from May to August), there is practically none. However, the number of rainy days can reach 5-7 during the winter period, so a light waterproof jacket or a compact umbrella might come in handy, especially from November to April. The main principle when packing is layering, as the temperature can change throughout the day.
For the summer months (roughly from May to October), when the average temperature stays above 19-20°C and rises to 23-24°C during the day, pack light, breathable clothing: t-shirts, shorts, sundresses, and skirts. Don't forget a swimsuit if you plan to visit the Tenerife coast. High SPF sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat are essential, as the sun is quite strong here. It can be a bit cooler in the evening, so a light sweater or cardigan will be useful. Comfortable walking shoes for the town's cobblestone streets—sandals or light sneakers—are your best choice.
In the cooler period (from November to April), when the average temperature is 15-18°C, you will need jeans or trousers, long-sleeved t-shirts, and sweaters or fleece jackets. A light jacket, perhaps windproof and slightly insulated, will protect you from the evening chill and occasional precipitation. Although heavy rain is rare, the presence of a few "wet days" per month suggests that water-repellent outerwear or a small umbrella won't go amiss. Regardless of the season, comfortable walking shoes remain a priority, as La Orotava is best explored on foot.
