Current Weather
Overview
The climate in Ise, Japan, is classified as temperate with four distinct seasons. The city experiences notable temperature fluctuations throughout the year, allowing tourists to enjoy a variety of weather conditions depending on the timing of their visit. Generally, you can expect warm and humid summers, as well as cool and drier winters.
The summer months, especially from June to September, are the warmest, with average temperatures rising to 27-28°C in July and August. This period is also characterized by the highest rainfall and number of rainy days, indicating a distinct rainy season or, at least, a period of frequent precipitation. Winters, by contrast, are quite mild, with average temperatures around 6-8°C in January and December, and significantly less rainfall.
Spring (March–May) and autumn (October–November) offer pleasant transitional periods. In spring, temperatures gradually rise, while in autumn they fall, with moderate precipitation during these seasons, making them a comfortable time to visit Ise and explore its attractions.
Temperature
The temperature regime in Ise shows clearly defined seasonal changes. The hottest month of the year is August, when the average air temperature reaches 27.9°C. During this period, daytime highs regularly rise to 30.7°C, while nights remain very warm, with minimum temperatures around 25.1°C. July is also very warm, with an average temperature of 26.7°C. Conversely, the coldest month is January, when the average temperature is 6.1°C; nighttime lows can drop to 3.2°C, and daytime highs rarely exceed 9.1°C. February is also cool, with an average temperature of 7.1°C.
Summer in Ise (June–August) is characterized by consistently warm and sometimes hot weather. In June, the average temperature is 22.4°C (ranging from 19.4°C at night to 25.5°C during the day), gradually rising toward the peak values of July and August. High temperatures combined with a high number of rainy days, especially from June to September, can create a feeling of high humidity. Nights in the summer months remain warm, providing comfortable conditions for evening walks, though light clothing is recommended.
The winter months (December–February) in Ise are cool but without severe frosts. Average daytime temperatures range from 9–11°C, while nighttime temperatures drop to 3–5°C. Although the temperature rarely falls below freezing, the chill is quite noticeable. Daily temperature fluctuations throughout the year are generally moderate, averaging 5–7°C. The smallest differences between day and night temperatures are observed in the summer and autumn months (July–October), while in spring (March, April), the difference can be slightly more pronounced, reaching 7–8°C.

Precipitation
Precipitation in Ise is unevenly distributed throughout the year, showing a pronounced seasonality. The city experiences a distinct wet period, primarily in the summer and early autumn months, and a drier winter season. The precipitation is predominantly rain, as even in the coldest months, temperatures rarely drop low enough for regular snowfall.
The period with the most precipitation spans the summer and early autumn months. In terms of rainfall volume, the wettest months are June and October, with an average of 10 mm each. However, in terms of the number of rainy days, July, August, and September lead the way—each of these months averages 20 rainy days, accounting for almost two-thirds of the month. This suggests that summer rains in Ise can be frequent, even if not always the heaviest at once, creating a humid atmosphere. In June, it rains an average of 16 days, and in October, 15 days.
On the other hand, the winter months are the driest. December and January see the least amount of precipitation—only 2 mm each—with just 6 rainy days per month. February is also relatively dry, with 3 mm of precipitation and 7 rainy days. The spring months (March, April, May) show a gradual increase in both the amount of precipitation (from 5 mm in March and April to 6 mm in May) and the number of rainy days, which ranges from 11 to 12 during this period. November marks the transition to the dry season: after the October peak, the amount of precipitation drops sharply to 3 mm, and the number of rainy days decreases to 8.

Packing Tips
When packing for a trip to Ise, it is important to consider the distinct change of seasons and the specific weather patterns of each. Regardless of the time of year, comfortable walking shoes will be your primary companion, as Ise is best explored on foot. In summer, especially from June to September, when average temperatures reach 22-28°C and rain is frequent (up to 20 rainy days in July–September), you will need lightweight, breathable clothing, as well as a reliable umbrella or a waterproof jacket. Don't forget sunscreen and a hat, as the sun can be intense even on cloudy days.
The winter months (December–February) in Ise are quite cool, with average temperatures around 6-8°C and lows dropping to 3°C. During this period, it is worth bringing warm clothes: sweaters, a fleece jacket, a warm coat, as well as a hat, scarf, and gloves, especially if you are sensitive to the cold. Although there is significantly less precipitation in winter, a light windbreaker might come in handy. Spring (March–May) and autumn (October–November) are characterized by changeable weather and moderate temperatures. For these seasons, the layering principle is ideal: a light jacket, cardigan, or sweater that can be easily put on or taken off depending on temperature changes throughout the day. Given that October also sees quite a few rainy days (around 15), an umbrella remains a necessary accessory.
