A journey into the era of the Great Geographical Discoveries should begin right here—at the Discovery Museum. Located in the historic center of Porto Seguro, this small yet significant museum serves as a window into the past, when the shores of modern-day Brazil first appeared on the horizon of Portuguese caravels. Here, on Praça Pero Campos de Tourinho, the history of the first meetings between two worlds comes to life.

Inside the building, visitors will find a unique collection of artifacts from the 16th to 18th centuries. The exhibition includes authentic navigation instruments, personal belongings of seafarers, and detailed models of the ships that the explorers used to cross the Atlantic. A special place is reserved for the ritual objects of indigenous tribes, providing genuine insight into the lives of the native population before colonization began.
The museum is an integral part of the Cidade Historica complex—the first European settlement on this land. Situated on a hill in the Upper City, it offers tourists not only valuable knowledge but also an inspiring atmosphere of ancient architecture surrounded by tropical greenery and the proximity of the ocean.
