Entry Rules for Armenia
Armenia is a top destination for 2025. Direct flights, no visa required, warm weather (at least in spring and summer), delicious food and Armenian hospitality, not to mention Zara and Bershka stores in Yerevan Mall. In this article, we tell you everything about the entry rules for the country.

When is the best time to visit Armenia
The most comfortable time for a tourist holiday involving long walks is April, May, June, September, October. In July-August, it can be too hot, and in late autumn and winter, the weather is unpredictable.
In December and January, just like in Russia, the season of snow, cloudy skies, and rain begins here. However, it's a great time for skiing in Tsaghkadzor, Armenia's main mountain resort, located on the picturesque slopes of Mount Tanegiz.
In summer, people come here to swim: either in open pools or in the cool Lake Sevan. To relax at balneological (a beautiful word meaning mineral water treatment) resorts, there's no need to consider the weather at all, as spa hotels in Dilijan operate year-round.
How to get to Armenia from Russia
By plane. There is regular air service between Russia and Armenia. Planes fly from various cities. For example, a ticket to Yerevan and back in mid-March costs 20,420 ₽. From Sochi to Yerevan and back — 14,615 ₽. Various airlines fly to Armenia: FlyOne, Ural Airlines, Azimuth, UTair.
By land transport. Russia and Armenia do not share a common border. Therefore, you can only get there via Georgia. Train No. 371 runs from Tbilisi to Yerevan on odd-numbered days, with a travel time of — 10 hours 35 minutes. There are also buses and taxis.
How long can you stay in Armenia without a visa and how to register
The maximum visa-free stay in Armenia is 180 days within a year. If you plan to stay in the country for 30 days or more, you will need to notify the passport office and register. Registration — is a stamp in your international passport. There are two ways to get it. First: you go to the police yourself. Second: you come with the person from whom you rent accommodation, who confirms that you live in their apartment. The first method is easier if your landlord lives in another city. The second — is faster.
To stay in Armenia for more than 180 days, some tourists do a visa run, traveling to neighboring countries for 1-2 days and then returning. After this, the period of stay in the country restarts.

What documents are needed to enter Armenia
Passport, international or Russian. Yes, you can enter Armenia with an internal passport, but only if you fly. If you travel by land, you will need an international passport. The fact is that Armenia does not share land borders with Russia, and you will have to cross the border with another state, for example, Georgia, in any case.
We advise entering with an international passport for extra security: for example, if you stay in Armenia for more than a month, you will be asked to register, and this can only be done with an international passport. You might also want to fly from Yerevan to, say, neighboring Tbilisi: again, you'll only be allowed with an international passport. So if you're wondering whether you need an international passport for Armenia, it's more likely yes than no.
PCR tests or a certificate of vaccination against coronavirus infection are not required to enter Armenia. Today there are no restrictions in the country: public places can be visited without a mask.
Do you need a visa for Armenia? No.
What you need to enter Armenia with a child
If the child is under 14 years old. You will need to bring the child's international passport. Processing the document at the place of registration takes about one month.
If the child is over 14 years old. Children over 14 years old can enter Armenia with a Russian or international passport.
If the child is traveling alone or accompanied by a third party who is not their parent (e.g., grandmother, aunt, or sports coach). The condition for departure — is a notarized consent for departure, signed by one of the parents. Without consent, the child will not be allowed to leave Russia.
Transit rules through Armenia
For citizens of the Russian Federation, no visa or other documents, except for an international passport, are required for transit through Armenia.
How to pay for purchases in Armenia
Russian Visa and Mastercard cards issued in Russia will not work in Armenia. However, you can pay with a Mir card without restrictions. UnionPay is more complicated: cards with this payment system are only accepted by terminals serviced by ACBA Bank.
The official currency in the country — is the Armenian dram. 1 dram = 0.2 rubles.
How to rent accommodation
Currently, there is high demand for accommodation in Armenia, especially in Yerevan and Gyumri. So prices have significantly increased compared to, for example, 2019 or 2020. Entry to Armenia for Russians is currently — not cheap. If you are staying for a long time, it's best to use local real estate rental websites and rent accommodation monthly. This will be cheaper than daily rates.
Here is a selection of local resources for finding accommodation:
You can also look for options on Avito. A two-room apartment with good renovation not far from the center will cost approximately 75–90 thousand rubles. Airbnb is also suitable, but you cannot pay with a Russian card on the website.
Medicine and insurance
Insurance will not be asked for at the border, but if you suddenly get sick — it will come in handy. So it's better to purchase a policy. For example, a simple insurance for an adult tourist for 14 days will cost approximately 600 rubles.
Medical services for foreigners are provided on a paid basis. Prices for patients without Armenian citizenship are usually quite high. If the situation is critical and emergency help is needed, an ambulance will respond to the call for free. But surgical intervention and other procedures in the hospital will need to be paid for.
