How to Get to Arkhyz
The Arkhyz ski resort is located in the Karachay-Cherkess Republic. Generally, this area includes the northern slopes of the Main Caucasian Range. The Arkhyz valley itself is situated at an altitude between 1,440 and 3,300 meters above sea level. The highest points of the resort are Mount Pshish and Mount Sofia.
Here's a fun fact: "Arkhyz" translated from the Karachay language means "beautiful girl".
The easiest way to get to this picturesque resort is from Mineralnye Vody. The nearest international airport is located there. The flight will take about 2–2.5 hours. There are also direct flights Saint Petersburg — Mineralnye Vody. Tickets for this route will be slightly more expensive: approximately 5,000–6,000 rubles. Travel time is also increased to 3.5 hours.
By the way, you can also get to Mineralnye Vody by plane from other cities. Direct flights are available, for example, from Volgograd, Yerevan, Rostov-on-Don, Sochi.
Important note: if you have ski equipment, it's worth thinking in advance about how to transport skis or a snowboard on a plane. We advise clarifying all these details in advance so you don't get upset at the check-in counter.
How to get to Arkhyz from Mineralnye Vody
From Mineralnye Vody airport, you will need to take a regular bus to the village of Romantik (this is where the Arkhyz ski resort is located).
There is also an option to rent a car or order a taxi. By the way, you can rent a car directly at Mineralnye Vody airport.

When to Go Skiing
The ski season in Arkhyz begins in early November. Snow usually falls by the end of October and, as a rule, does not melt until April inclusive. So, for skiing, you can and should come here during these months.
Pros
The air temperature in Arkhyz during winter does not drop below –5 degrees Celsius. So, skiing is a pleasure: snowy, but not too cold.
What to Consider
A trip during the New Year holidays should be planned in advance. For Arkhyz, as for any other ski resort, this is one of the busiest periods. There are many guests, so booking prices may increase. Overall, it's a great option for celebrating New Year, but be prepared for a large number of people.
Ski Season
The best conditions for skiing here are in January and February. During this time, you can conquer all the slopes all day long. In March, the southern slopes are not as pleasant: the snow gradually starts to become soft. This might not suit all skiers and snowboarders. In April, everything gradually melts, and, unfortunately, skiing in such conditions is difficult and not very pleasant.
By the way, you can also go to Arkhyz in summer. During the warm months, the area attracts with its nature and mountain views. We recommend taking the "Milky Way" cable car up to an altitude of 2,240 meters. There's a great observation deck there, so cool photos for social media are guaranteed. Active recreation enthusiasts can try horseback riding and trekking.

Prices at the Ski Resort
Finances… So much in that word. We've already written before that the cost will depend on the season. It's no secret that during holidays, accommodation and tickets will be more expensive, especially if you book and buy them not in advance, but right before the trip.
Here's a life hack: buying ski passes online will be cheaper than offline on-site. Plus, it's more cost-effective to get a multi-day ski pass.
What to Consider
The cost of skiing is influenced by the season and time. For example, the period from January to early March is considered high season. During this time, the price of a daily ski pass will be around 2,500 rubles for an adult and 1,650 rubles for a child (all prices are current as of October 2023). During the New Year holidays, it's naturally more expensive — 3,000 rubles.
It is most cost-effective to visit the Arkhyz ski resort during the opening season (from early November to late December) and in spring (from March to April). During this time, a ski pass for an adult will cost 2,000 rubles, and for a child — 1,300 rubles.
As for accommodation costs, everything depends on your preferences: there are luxury options and more budget-friendly ones. But more on that later. For now, let's discuss skiing.
Slopes and Lifts
During the ski season, the Arkhyz resort operates 27 km of slopes of varying difficulty levels. There are green slopes for beginners, blue for intermediate skiers, red for professionals (or near-pros), and separate black slopes for extremists. The main thing is that almost all slopes are equipped with an artificial snowmaking system. So, skiing here is safe.
You can reach the southern and northern slopes using four lifts: the four-seater chairlift "Sputnik", the eight-seater gondola "Milky Way", the six-seater chairlift "Lunar Express", and the gondola lift "Northern Lights".
Interestingly: for young athletes, there is a special ski school called "Arkhyzyonok". It has a dedicated fenced area — a kind of "kindergarten" where a safe travelator is installed. Its length is only 82 meters, and the ascent itself takes seven minutes.
By the way, all northern slopes of Arkhyz are odd-numbered, and southern ones are even-numbered. So, you can tell which slope you are on by the number.

Equipment Rental and Training
Arkhyz is an excellent ski option for those who are just learning to ski. Firstly, there are easy slopes here. Secondly, beginners can hire an instructor. The resort has several ski schools, not only for adults but also for children from four years old.
On average, an hour-long lesson with an instructor in Arkhyz will cost from 2,000 rubles per person in low season, 2,600 rubles in mid-season, and 2,900 rubles in high season. You can sign up for a group lesson (up to 10 people).
A small reminder: all prices are current at the time of writing the article; for more accurate budget planning, it's best to contact the resort before your trip.
For those who don't have their own ski equipment, or those who simply don't want to carry it, Arkhyz offers rental services. There are about 2,000 sets available. The main rental points are in Romantik and Lunny Polyana. The cost of a full equipment set for adults is 1,500 rubles per day, and for children — from 1,000 rubles. Here's a life hack: if you rent it for three days or more, the cost may decrease. You can rent the entire set or individual parts.
What Else to Do in Arkhyz and the Surroundings
In Arkhyz, you can do more than just ski. It will also appeal to those who don't like either skiing or snowboarding. Arkhyz is also a great location for a change of scenery, relaxation, and walks. Fresh air, remoteness from the metropolis, and stunning views of the Caucasus. Isn't this paradise?
You can find something to do in Arkhyz during both the cold and warm seasons.
In summer and spring, you can enjoy the tranquility of nature, improve your health, and relax in a spa. You should definitely visit the Lake of Love Suuk-Dzhurek-Kel, which translates to "cold heart" (admit it, did you hum "Let It Go"?). The name, by the way, is very logical: the reservoir is heart-shaped, and the water there is icy. So, those who always loved the cold — welcome.
In autumn and winter, the local views will also leave no one indifferent, and thermal springs will warm not only the body but also the soul. We recommend visiting the spring at the "Pearl of the Caucasus" complex near Cherkessk or the "Belovsky Thermal Complex" in Nevinnomyssk.
Oh, almost forgot the most important thing — mineral water! Yes, you can't just come to Arkhyz and not try the real mineral water extracted from local wells. Another spring, Myrzabek-Achy, is located near the village of Ust-Dzheguta. The water there is carbonated and slightly salty, so it quenches thirst well.

Where to Eat in Arkhyz
Let's move on to the most important thing in any trip: food. In Arkhyz, there are two ways to get it: go to a cafe or buy groceries in a store and cook everything yourself.
If you choose the first option, it's worth noting that there are practically no large restaurants here. Local cafes are small and authentic. Most often, these are family-run establishments. However, don't be quick to dismiss them. The food here is delicious and hearty. There are many meat dishes (shashlik and kebabs), baked vegetables are also often served, khychins with potatoes and cheese or with meat, and there are soups.
For those planning to cook for themselves, we want to warn you: you won't find large supermarkets in Arkhyz. Mostly, there are small local shops here. But you can try authentic raspberry or feijoa jam and delicious homemade flatbreads.
Where to Stay
At the ski resort, there are several accommodation options:
– hotels;
– recreation centers and guesthouses;
– apartments.
But before deciding where to check in, you need to understand exactly where to stay:
– at the resort itself (this is the village of Romantik);
– between the resort and the village of Arkhyz;
– in the village of Arkhyz (10 km from the ski resort);
– in the village of Nizhny Arkhyz (36 km from the resort).
Naturally, the village of Romantik is the most convenient location for those who came to ski. Lifts and equipment rentals are within walking distance there, however, during the season, there are many more people and higher prices. So, for a more economical vacation, it's worth considering the more remote Arkhyz and Nizhny Arkhyz.

However, whichever option you choose, the views everywhere will be incredible. So, consider your travel plans and budget.
What's the point of all this? The season has practically begun, which means it's time to decide how to spend it. It doesn't matter what you choose: a small hotel or a large house, whether you want to conquer mountain peaks or just walk around and take a bunch of stunning photos. The very fact of resting is already great.
