Yosemite Village
Current Weather
Overview
The climate in Yosemite Village is characterized as temperate with four distinct seasons. You can expect significant temperature fluctuations throughout the year, which is typical for mountain regions. Winters are quite cold, with average temperatures around freezing and frequent frosts, while summers are warm and sunny, with temperatures comfortable for outdoor activities.
Spring and autumn are transitional seasons. Spring sees a gradual warming, starting from a cool March and ending with a milder May. Conversely, in autumn, the temperature steadily decreases from a pleasant September to a noticeably cooler November. One of the key features of the weather in Yosemite Village is the distribution of precipitation: the highest amounts fall in the winter months and early spring, particularly in March, which is the wettest month. The summer months, especially July and August, are very dry by comparison, with minimal rainfall.
Therefore, when planning a trip to Yosemite Village, it is important to take these seasonal characteristics into account. Summer offers warm and dry weather, ideal for hiking and exploring the national park. Winter provides snowy landscapes but requires warm clothing. Spring and autumn can be unpredictable, with both sunny and rainy days, but they also showcase the beautiful colors of nature.
Temperature
Yosemite Village experiences a significant annual temperature range, typical of its mountain location. The warmest months are July, with an average temperature of about 19.3°C (daytime maximums can reach 26.5°C), and August, with an average temperature of 18.5°C (and maximums up to 25.5°C). The coldest month is usually February, when the average temperature drops to -0.5°C, and nighttime minimums can reach -5.8°C. January and December are also cold, with average temperatures just above freezing and regular nighttime frosts, as the mercury drops to -4.4°C and -4.7°C, respectively.
The summer period in Yosemite Village, covering June, July, and August, offers warm and predominantly dry weather. Daytime temperatures in July and August often rise above 25°C, and in June, they can reach 21.5°C, creating comfortable conditions for outdoor recreation. However, it is worth noting the significant daily temperature fluctuations: summer nights can be quite cool, with temperatures dropping to 7.7°C in June and to 11–12°C in July and August. This difference between daytime warmth and nighttime coolness, which is about 13–14°C, is especially noticeable on clear days.
Winter in Yosemite Village (December–February) is characterized by cool days and frosty nights. Average daily temperatures hover around freezing: from -0.5°C in February to 0.6°C in December. During the day, the thermometer can rise to 4.8–5.6°C, but at night, it regularly drops below zero, reaching marks from -4.4°C to nearly -6°C. Even in the winter months, the difference between the maximum daytime and minimum nighttime temperature remains substantial, at about 10°C. Transitional seasons, spring and autumn, also show noticeable temperature swings: for example, in October, it can be up to +17.2°C during the day and only +3.2°C at night.

Precipitation
When planning a trip to Yosemite Village, it's important to consider the typical distribution of precipitation throughout the year. There are clearly defined wet and dry seasons. The highest amount of precipitation occurs from late autumn to early spring, while summer is characterized by arid conditions.
The wettest month in Yosemite Village is March, with an average of 8 mm of precipitation and up to 15 wet days. The winter months—January, February, and December—also bring a significant portion of the annual moisture, about 6 mm of precipitation each, with 9 to 10 "wet" days. Given that average temperatures in these winter months hover around 0°C, and minimums drop well below freezing (down to -5.8°C in February), precipitation at this time of year falls primarily as snow. In March, with its borderline temperatures, there is also a high probability of snowfall or mixed precipitation.
The summer period, in contrast, is characterized by minimal precipitation. July is the absolute driest month—on average, no precipitation is recorded (0 mm), and the chance of rain is extremely low, only about 4 days. June, August, September, and October are also very dry: only 1 mm of precipitation falls, and the number of rainy days ranges from 3 (in October) to 6 (in June). In these warm months, any precipitation that does occur is usually a brief shower. Transitional months, such as April (3 mm of precipitation, 8 wet days) and November (3 mm of precipitation, 7 wet days), show a moderate amount of rainfall, gradually shifting the balance from the wet season to the dry one and vice versa. In November, as temperatures drop and reach minimum values of around -2.1°C, the first snowfalls are already possible.

Packing Tips
When planning a trip to Yosemite Village, it is important to choose your wardrobe carefully, given the significant seasonal weather and temperature variations. The key principle here is layering, as even on warm summer days, evenings can be cool, and the weather can be especially changeable during the shoulder seasons. Always bring comfortable, sturdy walking shoes, as Yosemite is primarily about the outdoors and hiking trails.
If your trip is during the winter months (December–March), when average temperatures hover around freezing and often drop lower, and precipitation falls as snow, you will need: a warm waterproof and windproof jacket, insulated trousers, thermal underwear, wool socks, a hat, gloves, and a scarf. Footwear should be waterproof and suitable for snow. In spring (April–May) and autumn (September–November), the weather can be unpredictable. Bring several layers: T-shirts, a fleece jacket or sweater, and a light but windproof jacket. In March, April, and November, an umbrella or raincoat will be useful, as the chance of precipitation is higher. Don't forget sunscreen and sunglasses, as the sun can be quite strong even on cool days, especially at high altitudes.
Summer (June–August) in Yosemite Village is usually warm and dry, with daytime temperatures reaching +25–26°C. You will need light, breathable clothing: shorts, T-shirts, and sundresses. However, evenings and nights can be cool (dropping to +7–12°C), so be sure to bring a fleece or a light jacket. A sun hat, high-SPF sunscreen, and sunglasses are essential for a summer trip. Regardless of the season, a small daypack for outings and a reusable water bottle are always helpful.
