History & Facts

The history of this place began in August 1994 and became a true triumph of community unity. Hundreds of volunteers joined forces to build a unique wooden structure in Columbia Park, which remained a favorite play spot for several generations of locals for many years.

Unfortunately, in 2016, the original structure was seriously damaged by a fire. An assessment showed that the wooden elements were beyond repair, which was a great loss for the community. However, the townspeople did not give up and decided to revive the legendary playground in a new, even better form.

The new structure was designed by the renowned firm Leathers and Associates, and volunteers again actively helped with the construction. The grand opening of the renovated Imagination Station took place on November 17, 2018, with the participation of Mayor Casey Ryan. Interestingly, the park land itself was purchased from Multnomah County back in 1992 for $143,000 specifically to create a recreation area.

Time Needed

To ensure children have enough time to play on all levels of the playground and adults can enjoy a walk through the park, it is recommended to plan a visit lasting from 2 to 4 hours. This is plenty of time to explore the main play areas and have a small snack.

If you also plan to walk the forest trails or organize a full picnic in one of the covered areas, your stay could extend to half a day. Keep in mind that it can get quite crowded on weekends and holidays, which may require additional time.

Working Hours

Imagination Station and Columbia Park are open to visitors daily. According to the official schedule, you can plan your visit from 08:00 to 20:00 any day of the week, from Monday to Sunday.

It's worth considering seasonal changes in daylight hours: during the summer period (April to September), the park often remains open until 21:00, while in the winter months (October to March), operating hours may be reduced to 18:00. It is recommended to visit during daylight hours to fully appreciate the beauty of the surrounding landscape.
