Packing Tips

When planning a trip to Stanford, it's worth considering its mild Mediterranean climate. The key principle for packing is layering, as the temperature can change significantly throughout the day, especially in the morning and evening. Regardless of the season, comfortable walking shoes will be your best companion, as Stanford and its surroundings are ideal for exploring on foot. Also, don't forget your sunglasses, as there are plenty of sunny days here.

In the cooler months, roughly from November to March, the average temperature fluctuates around 11-12°C, with possible lows around 7-8°C. Most of the annual precipitation falls during this period, although in small amounts (3-4 mm per month), but the number of rainy days can reach 10-13. Therefore, you should include a light or medium-weight jacket, a sweater or fleece, and jeans or trousers in your luggage. A compact umbrella or light raincoat will also come in handy in case of sudden rain. A scarf and gloves might be needed on the coolest days, especially if you are sensitive to the cold.

From April to October, Stanford experiences warm and mostly dry weather. The summer months (June-September) are particularly sunny, with average temperatures staying around 18-20°C and highs reaching 23-25°C. Precipitation is virtually non-existent during this time. For this period, choose light clothing: T-shirts, shorts, skirts, and dresses. However, even in summer, evenings can be cool, so a light sweater, cardigan, or windbreaker won't be out of place. Be sure to bring sunscreen with a high SPF and a hat to protect yourself from the sun during long walks or tours.
