How to get to Lakeland

Lakeland is a scenic city in central Florida, conveniently situated between the region's two major metropolitan areas. Travelers planning a trip to Lakeland can choose any convenient mode of transport: from flying into neighbouring airports to travelling by car or bus along high-quality American highways. Known for its numerous lakes and historic architecture, this city offers guests a relaxed atmosphere and excellent opportunities for a peaceful holiday.

The city is served by its own Lakeland Linder International Airport; however, most tourists prefer to use the major aviation hubs nearby due to a much wider range of flight connections. The most convenient option is flying into Tampa, located just 51 km from the centre, or into Orlando (79 km), which receives numerous international flights. You may also consider the airport in Sarasota, located 97 km away, which can be convenient if you are planning a complex route along the Gulf Coast.

Reaching the city by rail is quite feasible and convenient, as there is an operating Amtrak station here. Popular routes such as the Silver Star and Silver Meteor pass through it, connecting Florida with New York and other East Coast cities, allowing tourists to arrive directly in the city centre. Alternatively, you can travel to the major railway hubs in Tampa or Orlando, and cover the remaining distance in a rented car.

Bus services connect the city with key tourist centres in the state, offering affordable travel options. The fastest route is from Tampa: the bus covers the distance of about 62 km in approximately 1.7 hours. The trip from Orlando (about 90 km) will take slightly longer — around 1.8 hours.

It is also possible to get there from Sarasota, but please note that the 175 km journey can take over 12 hours due to the route specifics and transfers. Therefore, to save time, it is recommended to choose trips from closer cities.

Travelling by car is one of the fastest and most comfortable ways to get to Lakeland thanks to convenient access to the Interstate I-4 highway. The drive from Tampa will take only about 40 minutes (56 km), while the journey from Orlando (90 km) will require approximately 1 hour. Travellers coming from the coast, for example from Sarasota, will have to drive 132 km, which usually takes about 1.4 hours.
