Important note: At the moment, operations at Uzhgorod Airport are temporarily suspended. The tips and recommendations presented below are for reference and will be relevant after the resumption of air traffic. Please follow official information regarding the airport's status.
Travelling through Uzhgorod Airport is an experience different from the hustle and bustle of major aviation hubs. Thanks to its compact size, many procedures here are faster and calmer. To ensure your trip starts and proceeds smoothly, use our tips, which will come in handy once the airport resumes operations.
Arrival time: Despite the airport being small, it is recommended to arrive in advance. For domestic flights within Ukraine, allow 1.5-2 hours before departure, and for international flights — at least 2.5 hours. This time will be sufficient to complete all formalities without rushing, even if small queues arise.
Check-in and Security: Check-in counters usually open 2 hours before departure. To save time, use online check-in if your airline provides this option. Security control is standard but typically faster than in large airports. Prepare your documents in advance and remove all electronic devices and liquids from your hand luggage.
Seat selection on the plane: If it is possible to choose a seat, consider your preferences. Window seats will offer you stunning views of the Carpathians during takeoff or landing. Aisle seats are convenient if you want to be able to stand up without disturbing your neighbours.
Hand luggage: Standard rules apply here too: liquids in containers no larger than 100 ml (total volume up to 1 litre), packed in a transparent bag. Sharp objects, weapons, and flammable substances are prohibited. Always check the exact hand luggage and baggage allowance rules on your airline's website, as they may differ.
Transfer passengers: Uzhgorod is rarely used as a transit hub, but if you have a transfer planned, check with the airline whether you need to collect and re-check your luggage. Even in a small airport, allow sufficient time between flights.
Customs control: On international flights, you will have to pass through customs control. If you have no goods to declare, feel free to go through the "Green" channel. If you are carrying valuables, large sums of cash, or goods exceeding duty-free limits, you will need to fill out a declaration and pass through the "Red" channel.
Saving time and money: Online check-in is the best way to save time. To save money, book a taxi in advance via online services or find out about public transport routes to the city — this will be cheaper than using the services of drivers directly at the airport.
In case of flight delay: If your flight is delayed, first contact your airline's representative. Depending on the length of the delay, you are entitled to beverages, food, and, in case of a long wait, hotel accommodation. Remain calm and check information at the airline counter or on the departure board.
