How to get to Kisoro

Alternatively, many travellers choose to fly into neighbouring major cities, such as Kigali or Goma, which are located relatively close to the border. The airports in these cities handle more international flights, making it convenient to continue the journey to your destination by ground transport.

Currently, there is no direct railway connection to the city of Kisoro, as there is no train station in this mountainous area. Travellers who prefer trains will need to consider other logistical options, as the railway is not a primary mode of transport in this region of Uganda.

The nearest major cities that could theoretically serve as reference points are Goma and Kigali, however, the subsequent journey from them would still need to be made by car. Consequently, tourists are strongly advised to plan their route using aviation or road transport.

One of the most popular options is the route from the city of Kigali: the distance is about 130 km, and the trip will take approximately 2.9 hours, making this path convenient for transit tourists.

You can also reach the destination from the city of Goma, covering around 103 km in 3.2 hours. Given the mountainous terrain, for a comfortable trip to Kisoro, it is recommended to rent a reliable SUV or utilize the services of an experienced taxi driver familiar with the specific features of the local roads.
