It seems as if the castle grows directly out of the water, creating a truly fairytale and unforgettable image.

The castle is a superbly preserved architectural complex consisting of 25 buildings, towers, and courtyards connected by powerful fortress walls. Its history spans almost a thousand years, and over the centuries it served as a residence for the Counts of Savoy, controlled the strategically important road to Italy, and was later used as an arsenal and even a prison. Much of the castle's worldwide fame is owed to the poet Lord Byron, who immortalized it in his poem "The Prisoner of Chillon."
Today, Chillon Castle is a popular museum that allows visitors to take a trip back in time. Inside, you can see Gothic dungeons, state halls with 14th-century wall paintings, a knight's hall, antique furniture and weapons, and enjoy the stunning views of the lake and the Alps from the towers and embrasures. Visiting this castle is a unique opportunity to touch European history and see one of the most romantic castles in the world.
