On the Trading Side, where rich fairs once bustled, the Hanseatic Fountain now stands proudly. This modern landmark, opened in 2009, is a grand granite circle eight meters in diameter. It is designed as a sort of "negotiating table" where merchants from different countries might have met in times past.
The fountain's main feature is its magnificent colored mosaic inlay. The perimeter of the circle features the coats of arms of the 16 countries that belong to the New Hanseatic League, highlighting the status Velikiy Novgorod holds on the international stage. Elegant apple trees are planted around the plaza, and water flows gently from the center, creating a peaceful and solemn atmosphere.

The ensemble is completed by a bronze sculpture called the "Hanseatic Sign," depicting two boats—one from Novgorod and one from the Hansa. Their sails are shaped like intertwining tree crowns, symbolizing the strong bond between eras and nations. This site in Russia was the first memorial dedicated to the great trading union, harmoniously blending into the landscape of the ancient Yaroslav's Court.
