How to get to Svetlaya

By setting off for Svetlaya, you are choosing a path to one of the most secluded and distinctive corners of the Russian Federation, where civilization harmoniously gives way to wild nature. This small coastal settlement attracts those seeking silence, authenticity, and an opportunity to rest from the fast pace of big cities. Getting here is an adventure in itself: the main link to the outside world is light aviation, although a long overland route through the taiga is available for the most determined travellers.

Air transport remains the most reliable and fastest way to reach these lands. The settlement is served by the local Svetlaya airport (ETL), which receives light aircraft flights, allowing you to enjoy breathtaking views of the coastline and forests from a bird's-eye view.

The route network is usually built through key settlements in the region. The flight often includes intermediate stops or transfers at points such as Terney or Plastun, providing an air bridge to this hard-to-reach settlement.

There is no direct railway connection to the settlement of Svetlaya, as the region's railway network does not extend to these remote coastal areas. The nearest stations are located at a significant distance, hundreds of kilometres from the destination.

Tourists who prefer trains will have to construct a complex composite route: travel by rail to the region's major transport hubs (for example, Vladivostok or Khabarovsk), and cover the remaining, quite significant part of the journey by local aircraft or a specially prepared vehicle.

Bus service to the settlement is sporadic and heavily dependent on road conditions and the season. Direct regular services may be unavailable, so travellers often have to rely on routes connecting neighbouring district centres, followed by arranging a private transfer.

A bus trip to Svetlaya is a choice for those who have plenty of time and are ready for long journeys on unpaved roads. It is recommended to check the current schedule at the bus stations of major settlements well in advance before departure.

Travelling by car will give you freedom of movement and the opportunity to see the wild beauty of the region, but it requires preparation for difficult road conditions. One of the main routes runs through Terney: the distance is about 351 km, which will require approximately 7 hours behind the wheel, depending on the weather.

Another route option is possible from the side of the settlement of Plastun. Here the distance increases to 412 km, and the travel time will be about 7.5–8 hours. Given the remoteness from service centres, you should only set out on a reliable, preferably four-wheel drive (4WD) vehicle with a full tank of fuel.

A trip to a remote settlement requires a special approach to packing so that your holiday passes without domestic difficulties and leaves only warm memories.
