History & Facts

Galeria Sfera is more than just a shopping center; it is a vivid example of how an industrial past can find a new life. The complex was the first project in Poland to revitalize post-industrial urban areas, transforming abandoned factories into a modern public space. This is especially symbolic for Bielsko-Biała, which, thanks to its once-booming textile industry, was nicknamed "the Silesian Manchester."

The construction of the gallery took place in two stages and completely transformed the face of this part of the city. The first phase, SFERA I, was built on the site of the "Lenko SA" flax spinning factory buildings, which were demolished in 2000. Its grand opening took place on December 6, 2001. A few years later, in 2006, the second stage began: the old buildings of the former "ZPW Finex" factory along the Biała River were demolished. In their place rose the second building, SFERA II, which opened its doors to visitors on October 28, 2009.

The uniqueness of Galeria Sfera lies in its architectural approach, which respects the site's history. During the design and construction, original elements of the old factory buildings were partially preserved and integrated into the new design. Thus, the complex not only serves as a modern shopping and entertainment center but also acts as a bridge between the industrial heritage and the city's present, clearly demonstrating the connection between eras.

Time Needed

When planning a visit to Galeria Sfera, consider how much time you want to spend on shopping and entertainment. For a complete yet relaxed visit, including browsing shops, a coffee break, and lunch at one of the many restaurants, it is recommended to allow 2 to 4 hours. This will be enough time to explore the main offerings of the complex and make any necessary purchases without rushing.

If your plans are more extensive and include additional entertainment, your stay at the gallery could take half a day or even a full day. For example, you could combine shopping with watching a new movie at the cinema, playing bowling with friends or family, or attending one of the special events frequently held at the complex. This comprehensive approach will allow you to fully enjoy all the possibilities that Galeria Sfera offers.
