Overview

Coron, located in the Philippines, is characterized by a classic tropical climate. The weather here remains warm and comfortable throughout the year, making it an attractive destination for beach lovers and divers. The temperature is remarkably stable, with averages fluctuating within a narrow range from +26.8°C to +28.5°C, so it’s never cold here.

Two main seasons are clearly defined throughout the year. The dry season lasts from January to April, when the number of rainy days is minimal (3 to 8 days per month) and the sun shines almost constantly. This is the perfect time for boat trips and island hopping. From May through October-November, humidity rises, and the rainy season arrives. Rainfall peaks in July, when it can rain almost every day, though air temperatures remain high.

A notable feature of Coron's weather is the absence of sudden temperature changes. Even in the "coolest" months, such as February, the air warms up to a comfortable +27°C during the day, and nights remain very warm. Travelers should consider the high probability of rain during the summer and early autumn, but even then, tropical downpours often give way to bright sunshine, allowing you to enjoy nature.

Temperature

The temperature in Coron is remarkably stable, typical of the Philippines' tropical climate. It’s eternal summer here: annual average temperatures fluctuate within a very narrow range, creating comfortable conditions for vacationing year-round. February is considered the "coolest" month with an average temperature of about 26.8°C, while the peak heat usually occurs in May, when the air warms to an average of 28.5°C, with maximums reaching 29.5°C.

The traditional concepts of "winter" and "summer" are blurred here. The winter months (December, January, February) offer mild warmth: the air is warmed to 27°C, which is perfect for travelers looking to escape the cold. The summer period and early autumn, despite the rainy season, remain hot. Even in the wettest months, such as July and September, the temperature stays steady at 27.3°C, creating a sauna-like feel due to the high humidity.

A characteristic feature of Coron's climate is the almost complete absence of daily temperature fluctuations. The difference between the daytime maximum and nighttime minimum is minimal, often just 1–1.5 degrees. For example, in January, nighttime figures are around 26.2°C, while daytime figures are 27.7°C. This means that even after sunset, the air doesn't get cool, and you're unlikely to need warm clothes on your trip.

Precipitation

The climate in Coron has pronounced seasonality, which is important to consider when planning a trip to the Philippines. There is a clear dry season that lasts from January to April. This is the ideal time to visit: in February, March, and April, rainfall is minimal (around 1 mm), and rain is extremely rare — occurring only 3–5 days per month, which guarantees excellent conditions for beach holidays and boat tours.

With the arrival of May, the weather begins to change, and the rainy season kicks off, lasting until October. The wettest months are June, July, and September. For example, in July, it can rain almost daily — statistics show up to 29 rainy days. However, it’s worth noting that even during this period, precipitation often falls as warm tropical showers that can quickly give way to clear skies.

By November and December, the intensity of rainfall decreases, marking the transition to a drier period. In these months, the number of rainy days drops to 13–14, and the average rainfall falls to 4–5 mm. Overall, there is no snow in this tropical region, so rain remains the only form of precipitation year-round.

Packing Tips

Since the weather in Coron remains hot and tropical year-round with an average temperature of about 27–28°C, light summer clothing should form the basis of your luggage. Opt for natural, breathable fabrics like cotton and linen to stay comfortable in the high humidity. Be sure to bring several sets of swimwear, sunglasses, a wide-brimmed hat, and high SPF sunscreen (SPF 50+), as the sun is very intense here even on cloudy days.

If your trip falls between May and November, when the number of rainy days increases significantly (up to 29 days in July), you should prepare for precipitation. Despite the rain, the air temperature doesn't drop, so you won't need warm clothes. Instead of an umbrella, it's better to bring a lightweight rain poncho, which is more convenient for boat trips, and a dry bag to protect your electronics and documents from splashes and downpours.

Pay special attention to footwear: comfortable sandals or light sneakers are suitable for walking around town and excursions, especially if you plan to hike Mount Tapyas. However, the most important item in Coron will be aqua shoes (reef shoes) — they are essential for protecting your feet from sharp rocks and sea urchins when visiting lagoons and lakes. Also, don't forget insect repellent for the evenings and jungle visits.
