How to get to San Luis Potosí

When planning your itinerary to San Luis Potosí, you are choosing a journey to one of the most vibrant and strategically significant cities in central Mexico. Thanks to its favourable geographical location, the city can be reached by various means: it is served by its own international airport and connected to neighbouring states by a network of modern highways.

The fastest way to reach the city is to take a flight to the international San Luis Potosí Airport (SLP). This aviation hub receives many scheduled flights and is conveniently located relative to the centre, allowing you to begin your acquaintance with the region almost immediately after landing.

Alternatively, you may consider flying to neighbouring major cities if tickets there prove more favourable. The airports of León (BJX) and Aguascalientes (AGU) are located less than 150 km away, from where it is easy to continue the journey by ground transport. The airport of Zacatecas (ZCL) is also sometimes used for transit.

Currently, there is no direct passenger railway service to San Luis Potosí, as train stations in this part of Mexico do not serve tourist routes. The railway here is used primarily for industrial freight transport.

Routes from the cities of León (182 km) and Zacatecas (188 km) are also quite convenient and will require about 2.5 hours of travel time. Using a taxi or a rented car is an excellent choice for those who value speed and personal comfort.

3. Monetary matters. The official currency is the Mexican peso. Cards are accepted in large establishments, but always carry cash in small denominations for markets, street food, and tips.
4. Health and water. Drinking tap water is strictly not recommended. Purchase bottled water for drinking and even for brushing your teeth to avoid stomach upset.
5. Language barrier. The main language is Spanish. In tourist zones, staff may speak English, but knowing basic phrases ("hola", "gracias") will help you find common ground with locals faster.
