The Bridge of Sighs (Ponte dei Sospiri) is one of the most famous and photographed structures in Venice, the picturesque city in northern Italy. This elegant covered Baroque bridge spans the Palace Canal (Rio di Palazzo) and is an integral part of the city's architectural ensemble. It connects the majestic Doge's Palace, where the courtroom was once located, with the former prison building.
The bridge is built of white Istrian stone and decorated with intricate carvings, giving it a look that is both monumental and graceful. Through small windows covered with stone grates, there is a view of the lagoon. It is because of these windows, according to legend, that the bridge got its name. It is believed that the condemned, passing across the bridge from the courtroom to the prison casemates, would take a final look at beautiful Venice and sigh sadly.

This beautiful legend attracts thousands of tourists to the bridge, wishing not only to admire its architecture but also to touch one of Venice's most romantic traditions.
