Tucked away among the charming narrow streets of the old town, Arco di Riccardo (Richard's Arch) is one of the most prized ancient monuments in Trieste. Standing over 7 meters tall, this impressive structure is the sole surviving fragment of the ancient Roman defensive walls that once protected the settlement.

This historical gem appeared in the sunny land of Italy as early as 33–32 BC, during the reign of Emperor Octavian Augustus. Today, the arch looks remarkable: it has literally grown into the facade of an adjacent residential building, creating a striking contrast between the rugged Roman-era masonry and the everyday life of the modern city.
Located at the foot of San Giusto Hill, the arch serves as a portal to the past. It reminds travelers that the history of this place spans more than two millennia and is a must-see for anyone who appreciates atmospheric antiquities and classical archaeology.
