Once, Bab al-Sharqi was one of six majestic gates that formed part of the powerful fortification system of the medieval city. Today, it is a bustling cultural and transport hub where the past meets the present. Here, at the intersection of trade routes, you can see a unique neighborhood of mosques and ancient churches, reflecting the centuries-old diversity of the region.
The area encompasses the famous Tahrir and Al-Tayran squares. Tourists are drawn here not only by the historical atmosphere but also by iconic landmarks such as the Armenian Church of Saint Gregory and the grand Freedom Monument, created by the outstanding sculptor Jawad Saleem.
