Overview

Porto Heli welcomes travelers with a classic Mediterranean climate, characterized by plenty of sunshine throughout the year. The weather here is generally predictable and comfortable: summers are hot and dry, while winters are mild but with a noticeable increase in rainfall. Thanks to its coastal location, even high summer temperatures are more easily tolerated due to the sea breeze.

The hottest period falls in July and August, when the mercury often rises above 30°C and rain becomes exceptionally rare. This is the perfect time for beach lovers and water sports enthusiasts. The winter months, from December to February, bring cooler weather with average temperatures around 10–12°C and frequent rain; however, frost is an extremely untypical phenomenon here.

The shoulder seasons—spring and autumn—deserve special mention. In May and October, very pleasant weather sets in: the air warms up to a comfortable 20–23°C, creating excellent conditions for walking and sightseeing without the exhausting heat. Overall, the climate in Porto Heli is favorable for visiting the resort almost any time of year, depending on the goals of your trip.

Temperature

The climate in Porto Heli is distinguished by the mildness and comfort typical of this region of Greece. The annual temperature range varies from cool winter months to truly hot summers. The sweltering months are traditionally July and August, when the average air temperature stays at 28°C and daily highs regularly exceed the 32°C mark. January, by contrast, is considered the coldest period of the year with average readings around 10°C.

The summer season brings dry and sunny weather. July and August are characterized by a lack of precipitation and consistent warmth. Notably, daily temperature fluctuations in summer are not very large: even at night, the air does not cool down significantly, staying at 24–25°C. This creates a "tropical night" effect, where you can walk in light clothing until dawn, enjoying the warm sea breeze.

Winter here passes without severe frosts, remaining quite mild. In January and February, night temperatures rarely drop below 7°C, and during the day, the air warms up to a comfortable 12–14°C. Spring and autumn serve as a pleasant transition: as early as May, the average temperature reaches almost 20°C, and October continues to please with the warmth of the "velvet season" with daily highs around 22-23°C, making these periods ideal for excursions.

Precipitation

The climate in Porto Heli is characterized by a precipitation distribution typical of the Mediterranean: there is a clearly defined dry summer season and a wetter winter period. Travelers should expect the bulk of precipitation to fall as rain, as temperatures remain above freezing even in winter, and snow is an extremely rare occurrence.

The driest months are July and August. During this time, the probability of precipitation is near zero, and the average number of rainy days is only about 2 per month. This is an ideal period for a beach holiday when the sky remains clear almost constantly. June and September also delight with dry weather, counting only about 4 days with potential precipitation.

Nature brings the most moisture during the winter months. December and January are considered the rainiest: at this time, up to 9 days of precipitation per month are recorded. November and February can also be quite overcast (7–8 rainy days). If you are planning a trip at this time of year, it is recommended to bring an umbrella or a waterproof jacket, although prolonged downpours are infrequent here.

Packing Tips

In the summer, Porto Heli experiences hot and dry weather, so your luggage should primarily consist of light items made from natural fabrics such as cotton and linen. Be sure to bring swimwear, sunglasses, and a wide-brimmed hat to protect yourself from the intense Greek sun. Don't forget a high SPF sunscreen, as the risk of sunburn remains high even with a light sea breeze.

For travel during the shoulder season or winter, when average temperatures stay around 10–12°C, it is best to stick to the principle of layering. Pack comfortable jeans, a sweatshirt, and a warm sweater for cool evenings. A light windbreaker or waterproof jacket will be indispensable companions, protecting you from the wind and potential precipitation, the likelihood of which increases from November to February.

Regardless of the season, pay special attention to footwear: it should be stable and comfortable for long walks. During the day, well-worn sneakers or flat sandals are great for exploring the surroundings. If you plan on dining at elegant seaside restaurants, you can bring a set of dressier clothes, but remember that the holiday style here is relaxed and casual.
