To make your journey through Bouthéon Airport in the city of Saint-Étienne as comfortable as possible, use our tips. This is a small regional airport, so orienting yourself here is quite simple. We advise arriving at the airport at least 2 hours before the departure of international flights and 1.5–2 hours before domestic ones. This time will be enough to check in, drop off luggage, and pass security control without haste, setting off on a journey through France or beyond its borders.
To save time, complete online check-in if your airline provides such a service. Upon arrival at the airport, you will only need to hand over your luggage at the special counter (baggage drop-off) and head to the security checkpoint. Keep your passport and boarding pass ready. Although queues here are usually shorter than in major hubs, foresight is never superfluous.
Pay close attention to packing your hand luggage. All liquids (gels, creams, aerosols) must be in containers with a volume of no more than 100 ml and packed in a single transparent bag measuring approximately 20x20 cm. It is prohibited to carry sharp objects, weapons, and flammable substances in the cabin. Valuable items, documents, medicines, and electronics should always be kept with you in your hand luggage.
When choosing a seat on the plane, consider your preferences. A seat by the window will offer beautiful views during takeoff and landing, while a seat by the aisle will allow you to stand up freely and stretch your legs during the flight. If a quick exit from the plane upon arrival is important to you, choose seats in the front part of the cabin.
If you have a connecting flight, check in advance whether you need to collect your luggage in Saint-Étienne. With through check-in (when all flight segments are on one ticket), luggage is usually automatically transferred to the next flight. If you have two separate tickets, you will have to collect your suitcases, pass customs, and check in again for the next flight. In the airport, follow the signs for "Correspondances" (Transfers).
When arriving from a country outside the Schengen area, you will have to pass customs control. If you do not have goods to declare, feel free to go through the "Green" channel (Rien à déclarer). If you are carrying goods exceeding established limits (for example, tobacco products) or large amounts of cash, you must choose the "Red" channel and declare them.
To save a little, take an empty reusable water bottle with you — it can be filled at drinking fountains after the security zone. Prices for food and drinks in airports are often inflated, so a light snack brought from home will help save your budget. Booking a taxi or transfer online in advance may also turn out to be cheaper than looking for a car on the spot.
In case of a flight delay or cancellation, remain calm. First of all, follow the information on the departure boards and contact your airline representative. Remember that passengers departing from EU airports are protected by Regulation (EC) No 261/2004. Depending on the length of the delay and the flight distance, it may entitle you to meals, drinks, and even hotel accommodation at the airline's expense.
