History & Facts

The modern Rolava Recreation Area has a deep and unexpected history. In 1941, on this very spot among the forests of the Ore Mountains, the Rolava camp (known then as Sauersack) was built. It was constructed to house prisoners whose labor was required for the neighboring tin mine. The territory had a clear rectangular layout covering more than 20,000 square meters.

Historical records show that there were two camps here. From late 1943, one of them was intended for French and Soviet prisoners of war. After the end of hostilities, the buildings were demolished, and for a long time, the land passed to the Czechoslovak army, which used it for training its units.

Later, the territory underwent a massive ecological transformation: artificial reservoirs were created here. Since 2010, archaeological research has been conducted on the site, allowing scientists to better study the artifacts from that period preserved in the ground. The remote location helped many traces of the past remain untouched by time.

Today, there is no trace of its somber past — the place has been completely transformed into a flourishing family park. Instead of parade grounds and barracks, visitors are greeted by green lawns and modern sports facilities, symbolizing the triumph of peaceful life and concern for the health of new generations.

Time Needed

To fully enjoy all the opportunities that the After School Campus Rolava has to offer, we recommend setting aside a full day (from 6 to 8 hours). This will be enough time for children to play to their heart's content on the playgrounds, while adults can enjoy sports and relax by the water.

If your goal is a quick morning run or a quiet stroll, 1–2 hours will be sufficient. The optimal time for those seeking solitude and quiet is the morning hours (from 9:00 to 12:00), especially on weekends before the main crowd of visitors arrives at the park.

Working Hours

The complex is open to visitors daily, allowing for flexible leisure planning. Regardless of the day of the week, the doors of the recreation area are open from early morning until late evening.

Opening hours: Monday to Sunday — from 6:00 to 22:00. This schedule is convenient for both morning workout enthusiasts and those who prefer evening sunset walks.
