Planning a trip to the beautiful island of Curacao, you will most likely arrive at its international airport near Willemstad. To make your airport experience as comfortable and carefree as possible, we have prepared several useful tips for travellers.
Arrival Time at the Airport. For international flights, it is recommended to arrive at the airport at least **2.5-3 hours** before departure. This will give you enough time to check in, drop off luggage, and pass through passport and pre-flight security controls without rushing.
Check-in and Security. To save time, use online check-in for your flight, which most airlines open 24 hours before departure. Security procedures at the airport are standard, but be prepared in advance: keep your boarding pass and passport handy, remove laptops and other large electronics from bags, and pack all liquids according to regulations.
Seat Selection and Hand Luggage. When choosing a seat on the plane, try to get a window seat — the take-off and landing offer stunning views of the Caribbean Sea and the island. Regarding hand luggage, remember the international rule for carrying liquids: all containers must be no more than **100 ml** in volume and packed in a single transparent resealable bag. Sharp objects and other prohibited items should be checked into luggage immediately.
Transit Passengers and Customs. Curacao Airport is quite modern and compact, making transfers convenient. Simply follow the signs for "Connecting Flights" or "Transfers". When passing through customs control upon arrival, be ready to present a completed migration card (usually issued on the plane) and declare goods if their value exceeds established limits.
Saving Time and Money. Book an airport transfer or rent a car online in advance — this is often cheaper than taking a taxi on the spot. Bring an empty water bottle to fill after passing security control, and light snacks to avoid spending on expensive products at the airport.
In Case of Flight Delay. If your flight is delayed, first contact your airline representative for up-to-date information and possible compensation (e.g., food vouchers). While waiting for departure, you can visit Duty Free shops, rest in one of the cafes, or use the free Wi-Fi to stay in touch with loved ones.
