The climate of Xinpu, located on the eastern coast of China, is classified as humid subtropical. Due to its proximity to the Yellow Sea, weather conditions here are largely determined by marine air masses, making winters significantly milder than further inland, while summers are quite humid and hot.

The region experiences four distinct seasons throughout the year. The most comfortable periods for a visit are spring and autumn, when air temperatures remain moderate and the skies are often clear. Summer months are characterized by high humidity and heavy rainfall, while the winter period brings a refreshing chill but is rarely accompanied by severe frosts.

The temperature patterns in Xinpu show a classic seasonal dynamic typical of coastal China. The hottest period of the year is summer: in July and August, daytime temperatures consistently stay around +30°C, while nighttime temperatures rarely drop below +25°C. Due to high humidity, these temperatures can feel more intense.

Winter in the region arrives in December and lasts until February, characterized by mild conditions. In January, the coldest month, the average temperature is around +13°C, with daytime highs reaching +15-17°C and nighttime lows usually not falling below +11°C. This makes the city's climate much more pleasant compared to the country's northern provinces.

The shoulder seasons offer the most balanced weather. In March and April, daytime temperatures fluctuate within a comfortable range of +20°C to +24°C, which is ideal for sightseeing. May is considered one of the best months for a visit, when stable warmth of around +26°C sets in, but the sweltering summer heat has not yet arrived.

Xinpu is characterized by an uneven distribution of precipitation, with a pronounced wet season during the summer months. The peak of the rainy season occurs in June and July, when rainfall can exceed 200 mm per month. During this period, showers are often intense, bringing temporary relief from the subtropical heat.

The frequency of rainy days reaches its peak in August, when an umbrella might be needed for an average of 22 days a month. Humidity increases significantly during this time, creating the muggy feel typical of China's eastern coast.

In contrast, the winter and early spring months are remarkably dry. The most favorable time in terms of lack of rainfall is the period from November to March. In March, for example, up to 20 dry days are recorded, and rare precipitation usually falls as a light drizzle, making this time an excellent choice for sightseeing tours.

When packing for Xinpu, it's best to follow the principle of layering, especially if your trip is planned for the shoulder season. In spring and autumn, you'll need clothing made from natural fabrics, as well as a light sweater or windbreaker for evening walks by the sea. Be sure to bring comfortable walking shoes, as the city and its surroundings are ideal for long pedestrian routes.

For a summer trip, prepare for a combination of heat and high humidity: choose clothes made of linen or cotton and be sure to pack a hat and sunglasses. Since summer is the rainy season, a compact umbrella or a high-quality raincoat will be your essential companions. For a winter visit to this region of China, a light jacket will suffice, but don't forget skin moisturizers to protect against the sea winds.
