Rising above the Wuhua District, Yuantong Mountain is a harmonious blend of natural landscape and ancient spirituality. It is one of the most revered sites that Kunming takes pride in, as it is home to the Buddhist temple of the same name with a history spanning over 1,200 years.

The main feature of the complex is its unusual "inverted" layout. Unlike most temples in China, where visitors climb upwards, the steps here lead down to a central pond with golden carp and an elegant octagonal pavilion. The area is filled with greenery, mysterious caves, and ancient halls housing three-meter tall Buddha statues.
In addition to religious shrines, the mountain offers guests panoramic views of city blocks, remains of ancient fortress walls, and even a modern recreation area with a Ferris wheel. This is a unique space where ancient traditions meet the everyday rhythm of a modern metropolis.
