If you prefer ground transport, use bus routes K4, K504, or Y2, which go to the West Lake stop. A taxi ride from the central railway station will take about 15–20 minutes and cost approximately 20–30 yuan depending on the traffic situation.

For those already in the lake's park area, walking or renting a bicycle is a great option. You can also use tour boats that cruise the lake and can drop you off at the pier near the fountain. It gets crowded on summer evenings, so it is worth arriving 30–40 minutes before the show starts to secure a good spot.

To simply watch the music and light show and take a short walk along the Third Park embankment, 1–2 hours will be sufficient. Usually, one performance lasts about 15 minutes, and many tourists prefer to wait for the next session to get a different perspective for photos.

If you plan to combine a visit to the fountain with a full walk along the West Lake causeways, a visit to the Leifeng Pagoda, or an evening viewing of the "Impression West Lake" show, it is better to set aside half a day (3–4 hours). Evening is the most popular time, as the fountain's lighting looks most impressive at twilight.

The musical fountain usually delights visitors several times a day. There are two sessions during the day (approximately at 10:00 and 12:00), and four sessions in the evening (around 19:00, 19:30, 20:00, and 20:30). The evening shows are much more popular due to the spectacular illumination.
