In the very center of Punta Arenas rises the majestic Monument to Hernando de Magallanes — a grand bronze sculpture dedicated to the legendary navigator. This monument, located in Chile on the main square, Plaza Muñoz Gamero, is not just a city landmark but an important symbol of the Age of Discovery.
The ten-meter composition by sculptor Guillermo Córdova depicts Ferdinand Magellan standing on a cannon carriage. His gaze is fixed toward the sea, while his hand holds his hat as if greeting new horizons. At the base of the monument are expressive figures of Patagonian Indians, who represent the indigenous peoples of the southern lands and add a deep cultural context to the monument.
