The history of the city of Rolim de Moura is inextricably linked to the large-scale government program for the development of the Amazon basin, which the government of Brazil initiated in the second half of the 20th century. Unlike ancient settlements, this city emerged as the result of a clear administrative plan for the colonization of the state of Rondônia.
The first documentary mentions and the actual birth of the settlement date back to 1979. During this period, a project was launched aimed at settling colonists arriving to develop new agricultural lands. The city's name has Portuguese roots: the surname Rolim de Moura was traditionally associated with noble families and administrators, which gave the new settlement a touch of historical significance.
The municipality was officially established on August 5, 1983. A favorable geographical position in the East mesoregion of the state of Rondônia and its location within the promising Cacoal economic region contributed to the rapid development of the city. In a short time, Rolim de Moura transformed from a temporary settlement for workers into a full-fledged administrative center, becoming home to thousands of people seeking a new life on the frontier of the Amazon rainforest.
