Maringá Cathedral, officially known as the Cathedral Basilica Minor of Our Lady of Glory (Catedral Basílica Menor Nossa Senhora da Glória), is the primary architectural landmark and most important Catholic church in the city of Maringá, Brazil. The main feature of the cathedral is its unique and bold modernist architecture. The building is shaped like a giant cone reaching toward the sky, making it one of the most recognizable structures in the country. According to one version, architect José Augusto Bellucci was inspired to create this futuristic look by Soviet space satellites.
In addition to its unusual appearance, Maringá Cathedral is impressive in size. Its total height, including the cross at the top, reaches 124 meters, making it the tallest Catholic cathedral in all of Latin America. Inside, visitors will find a spacious interior capable of accommodating over 4,500 people, while light filtering through 16 abstract stained-glass windows creates a special atmosphere of serenity.
