Overview

The climate in Jabiru can be described as hot tropical, with a distinct division of the year into two contrasting periods: the dry season and the wet season. Due to its location in the north of the country, the weather remains warm year-round, and even in the "coldest" months, such as July, the average temperature does not drop below a comfortable +25°C. The concept of winter here is quite relative and does not imply cold weather.

The dry season, which lasts from May to September, is considered the most favorable time to visit. During these months, statistics show virtually no precipitation, and the number of rainy days is reduced to zero, making it ideal for active tourism and nature walks. In contrast, the period from November to March is characterized by a high number of wet days (up to 27 days a month in January), when the sky is often overcast and humidity increases significantly.

Temperature levels in the city are stable but have their peaks. The hottest time is the lead-up to the wet season—October and November—when daytime maximums can reach +36°C...+37°C. Travelers should be prepared for the fact that Jabiru will always be summery hot, regardless of the chosen travel dates.

Temperature

Temperature levels in Jabiru are characterized by stable tropical warmth throughout the year, so the concept of "cold" is quite relative here. The hottest months are October and November, when average daytime temperatures reach their peak values of around 37°C. Even in the "coolest" months of the local calendar cycle—June and July—the average temperature stays at a comfortable 25-26°C, making this region attractive for those who prefer to avoid freezing weather.

The Australian summer (from December to February) brings consistently high temperatures: during the day, the thermometer shows around 32-34°C, and nights remain very warm, not dropping below 25°C. The winter period (June-August), which coincides with the dry season, feels different. During the day, the sun still actively warms the air to 32-34°C, but the humidity is significantly lower, and the nights become noticeably fresher and more pleasant, with minimum temperatures around 18-19°C.

Travelers should take into account significant daily temperature fluctuations, especially during the dry season and transitional months. For example, in September and October, the difference between the daytime heat and the nighttime cool can be up to 15 degrees: after a daytime high of 36°C, the temperature can drop to 21°C by morning. In the rainy season (from January to March), this amplitude levels out, and the warmth remains almost around the clock with minimal changes.

Precipitation

Jabiru features highly seasonal rainfall typical of a tropical climate: the year is clearly divided into wet and dry periods. Since air temperatures remain high all year round, precipitation falls exclusively as rain. The wettest season lasts from November to March, peaking in January with up to 27 rainy days. During this time, as well as in February and March, rainfall is very frequent, so tourists should be prepared for regular showers.

The dry season, by contrast, offers travelers guaranteed clear weather. From June to September, the rain stops completely: statistics show 0 mm of rainfall and a total absence of rainy days during these four months. Transition periods are observed in April and May, when the number of wet days rapidly decreases, preparing the region for an absolutely dry mid-year.

Packing Tips

Since Jabiru is located in Australia's hot tropical climate, your luggage should consist primarily of light and loose clothing made from natural breathable fabrics such as cotton or linen. Given the high daytime temperatures, which often exceed 30°C, be sure to bring a wide-brimmed hat, high-quality sunglasses, and a maximum protection sunscreen (SPF 50+), as the Australian sun is very intense.

When packing, it is important to consider the seasons. If your trip falls during the wet season (from November to April), be prepared for frequent rain and high humidity: a light raincoat, a waterproof poncho, and quick-drying clothes will become a necessity. In the dry season (from May to October), there is almost no rainfall, but nighttime temperatures can drop to +18°C, so a light sweater, hoodie, or windbreaker will come in handy for evening walks.

To explore the surroundings and Kakadu National Park, you will need comfortable, sturdy, and closed-toe shoes suitable for long walks on uneven terrain. Also, don't forget reliable insect repellent, which is especially important near bodies of water and in wooded areas. Use the layering principle in your clothing to feel comfortable during both the hot midday and the cool evening.
