Baggage

Baggage rules at Aeroflot depend on the selected fare and class of service. Standard dimensions for carry-on baggage are set at no more than 55x40x25 cm. Business class passengers can take one bag weighing up to 15 kg into the cabin, while for Economy and Comfort classes, the limit is 10 kg.

Checked baggage allowances also vary: Business class allows 2 pieces up to 32 kg each, Comfort class — 2 pieces up to 23 kg, and Economy class (depending on the fare) — 1 or 2 pieces up to 23 kg. If your ticket was purchased under the "Light" fare, baggage is not included in the price and must be paid for separately.

Fixed rates apply for excess baggage, which are more economical if paid in advance via the website or mobile app. Aeroflot has a loyal policy toward sports equipment: during the ski season, the airline often offers free transportation of one set of skis or a snowboard in addition to the standard baggage allowance.

Strollers and car seats are transported free of charge if they are being used by the passenger. When packing, remember to avoid prohibited items: flammable substances, compressed gases, and other dangerous goods are not allowed. To avoid extra fees, be sure to weigh your suitcase before heading to the airport.

Pet Rules

Aeroflot offers well-thought-out conditions for traveling with your pets, striving to make the flight as comfortable and safe as possible for animals.

In-Cabin Transport

  • Animals whose weight, including the container, does not exceed 8 kg are allowed in the cabin.
  • The dimensions of a soft carrying bag must not exceed 126 cm in the sum of three dimensions, and a hard container must be no larger than 44x30x26 cm.
  • Dogs, cats, birds, and even tame rabbits are accepted for transport.

Transport in the Cargo Hold

  • If a pet weighs more than 8 kg, it is transported in a heated cargo compartment in a special certified container.
  • The maximum allowable weight of the animal with the crate is 50 kg.
  • The container must be spacious enough for the animal to stand at its full height and turn around its axis.

Required Documents and Preparation

For flights within Russia, a veterinary passport with records of current vaccinations (rabies is mandatory) is required. For international flights, requirements may be stricter, including microchipping and specific certificates from the destination country. It is recommended not to feed the animal 4 hours before departure but to ensure access to water.

The cost of the service depends on the weight of the animal and the flight destination. It is important to remember the restrictions: Aeroflot limits the transport of brachycephalic dog breeds (those with flat faces, such as pugs or bulldogs) due to health risks during the flight. Before booking, be sure to contact the airline to confirm the pet transport quota.

Loyalty Program

The Aeroflot Bonus loyalty program is recognized as one of the most popular and rewarding in the region. It allows passengers to earn miles for every flight and use them to gain exclusive privileges. Participation in the program is free and open to all travelers.

Accumulated miles can be exchanged for award tickets, service class upgrades from Economy to Business, as well as products in the program's online catalog. Registration for Aeroflot Bonus is possible on the airline's website and takes only a few minutes.

Booking Tips

To purchase Aeroflot tickets at the best prices, it is recommended to plan your purchase 2–3 months before departure. The most budget-friendly offers are usually available for mid-week flights, especially on Tuesday and Wednesday, while ticket prices traditionally increase on weekends and holidays.

Keep an eye out for seasonal sales and special promotions that the airline regularly announces on its official website. Special attention should be paid to online check-in, which opens 24 hours before and closes 45 minutes before departure. This is a great opportunity to choose a comfortable seat in the cabin for free and save time at the airport.

Using the Aeroflot mobile app significantly simplifies the process of booking and managing services. The app often features exclusive offers and provides the ability to receive timely notifications about flight status. Don't forget to check the insurance terms: purchasing a policy when buying your ticket can help avoid extra expenses in case of unforeseen circumstances or baggage delays.

History

The history of Aeroflot began in March 1923 with the creation of the voluntary air fleet association "Dobrolet." The airline received its modern, globally recognized name in 1932. Aeroflot was at the forefront of civil aviation development, exploring vast territories and connecting the most remote corners of the country.

In 1956, the company achieved a true breakthrough by launching the world's first regular jet service using the Tu-104 aircraft. During the Soviet period, Aeroflot was the nation's sole air carrier, becoming the world's largest airline with a massive fleet and a unique training school for pilots and flight attendants.

A significant milestone in its development was joining the SkyTeam international airline alliance in 2006, which allowed it to significantly expand its flight geography and integrate global service standards. In the modern era, Aeroflot has successfully transformed into a high-tech company, focusing on digitalization and renewing its fleet with the latest aircraft models.

Today, Aeroflot (SU) continues to develop sustainability programs and environmental initiatives. Having traveled the path from wooden biplanes to state-of-the-art airliners, the company remains faithful to its traditions, standing as a symbol of reliability and quality in the sky.
