What to visit in Georgia
Oh, to go somewhere where no visa or English knowledge is needed, but with lots of delicious food and new experiences… Does such a place exist?
Of course it does! One of the best destinations in 2025 is Georgia. It has beautiful views and unusual attractions. Let's not waste time – forward, to conquer mountain peaks and eat khachapuri!

Cities and Fortresses
To experience the local flavor, you don't have to go far. Just stroll through the narrow streets and find yourself in the bustling center of the metropolis.
Tbilisi
The capital of Georgia is Tbilisi, a city of creativity and modern art. But it's not just exhibitions that stir the heart. For example, famous artists often come here. In the summer of 2023, Imagine Dragons played a concert here, and Bruno Mars will arrive in the autumn.
For a first acquaintance, it's best to visit the Opera and Ballet Theater or walk around Revolution Square. Not far away, by the way, is the unusual Pixel 34 building, which fully lives up to its name. From a distance, the shopping center truly resembles a pixel, and inside there are many different clothing stores. Just one trip into the city is enough to understand how creative the people here are.
Batumi
A city of contrasts: to the left stretches the Black Sea coast, and to the right rise skyscrapers. And it's all for a reason! Batumi borders Turkey, so there's always a good mood, a rich vacation, and a pleasant aroma of freshly brewed coffee in the air.
Be sure to ride the Ferris wheel in the “Park of Miracles” and see the evening city from a bird's-eye view. Or take a stroll through New Batumi: there are many modern architectural objects and art installations, such as Batumi Boulevard with palm trees and a distant Ferris wheel, or the Ali and Nino monument (the local Romeo and Juliet).
Mtskheta
Some describe Mtskheta as a celestial city, while for others it is the heart of Georgia. In the distant past, the city was not only the country's very first capital but also initiated its religious history.
Now you can see a large number of monasteries and churches there, for example, the main Samtavro temple with a beautiful park at the entrance or the Makvlovani chapel right in the mountains. By the way, if you decide to stay in Mtskheta, be sure to try Georgian bread (tone) and visit the roadside cafe “Salobie”. From there, you can start your gastronomic journey and try juicy khinkali or Adjarian khachapuri.

Ananuri Fortress
The paradox is that no matter which way you travel – to Tbilisi or from Tbilisi – you will still find yourself near Ananuri Fortress. It is located on the shore of the Zhinvali Reservoir. This is an artificially created body of water that supplies large cities with water. However, judging by the number of tourists visiting it, this place can safely be called a landmark of Georgia.
Sighnaghi Fortress City
In recent years, the fortress city of Sighnaghi has gained immense popularity among travelers. Many rush to see the stone wall, stretching along the mountain and forming a broken polygon. All because of the views it offers: green fields and mountain peaks are visible even to the naked eye. And to witness such a landscape is a great stroke of luck.
Mountain Peaks
Many travelers want to see the mountains of Georgia for themselves. And not at all because you can enter the country without a visa. It's simply that the local landscapes make your heart stop, and emotions overflow. This is why tourists have fallen in love with the country and are now ready to return again and again.
Shkhara
The most famous and highest point in Georgia is Mount Shkhara. It got its name, which means “striped” in translation, due to the ridges that look very much like stripes when descending.
By the way, you've probably seen photos of the stone village of Ushguli against the backdrop of snow-white mountain peaks hidden behind the clouds. Yes, such beauty is available to all travelers who buy tickets to Tbilisi and head to the village of Mestia.
Kazbek
Confidential: Mount Kazbek is a volcano that has been inactive for a long time. However, this doesn't hinder, but rather fuels, travelers' interest in the peak. At its foot stands one of the attractions – the “floating” church (or Gergeti Trinity Church) in Gergeti. This is a place of power that many yearn to see. All because of the visual effect: from below, it seems as if the church is floating in the air. In short, it's amazing!

Ushba
Taking photos of Mount Ushba or admiring it at sunset is a must-do for everyone traveling to Georgia. The impregnable peak captivates from afar. However, do not attempt to conquer Ushba without proper preparation. It is very dangerous: sheer slopes and a changing microclimate do not always play in your favor. But viewing the mountain from a distance of several kilometers is a very inspiring sight.
Tetnuldi
In general, “Tetnuldi” is a popular ski resort on the mountain of the same name. It appeared quite recently (in 2016) and has already captivated a large number of tourists. The mountain slopes are suitable for both beginners and more experienced skiers and snowboarders. So, if you don't know what else to visit in Georgia, and your heart yearns for active recreation, go for it! Just don't forget to take a couple of lessons with an instructor if you're new to this. Just in case.
Mtatsminda
If reaching Mount Ushba or Kazbek is quite difficult, ascending Mtatsminda is no trouble at all. It's located in Tbilisi, and a funicular leads to the top (it's the only one in the city, so you can't go wrong). There you can ride the Ferris wheel, take cool photos, and see the TV tower. By the way, for children, there's a play area with many attractions and dinosaur figures.
South of Georgia
Vardzia
Vardzia is a cave city consisting of 600 rooms. No one lives there now. The place is especially popular with tourists. The mysterious atmosphere and grandeur send shivers down your spine. And the photos taken there turn out magnificent, and the landscapes are amazing. All thanks to the view from the “window”: mountain peaks and a road stretching into the distance.

Borjomi
Borjomi is known not just by hearsay (let's pretend it's not only because of the eponymous water you've surely seen on store shelves). It's a resort town in Georgia where people go not only to try mineral water but also to breathe fresh air during walks. The climate there is warm and pleasant, making it a pleasure to leave your hotel room.
Religious Centers
Religion plays a significant role in Georgia, which is why there are many temples here.
Metekhi Fortress
One of the most famous religious attractions and a calling card of Tbilisi is Metekhi Fortress. It works real wonders on all tourists: the closer you get, the further away the city noise and general hustle fade. Instead, beautiful views of the Kura River open up, as well as a cozy mini-garden inside.
Sioni Cathedral
Sioni Cathedral (or Sioni Church) is located in the center of Old Tbilisi. This makes it easily accessible for visits, so be sure to look inside. The cathedral houses the woven cross of Saint Nino, which distinguishes the temple from other religious attractions. Outside are strict stone facades, and inside – a large number of frescoes. By the way, there's a small garden right at the exit, it's very cozy and atmospheric there.
Gelati Monastery
Getting to Gelati Monastery is actually not difficult. The complex of the same name is located near the city of Kutaisi. The taxi ride there will take no more than 20 minutes. For the duration of the walk, travelers are advised to take a guide with them or book a tour in advance. The fact is that the place holds a vast history, and some things can easily be missed, especially by someone unfamiliar with it.

Gastronomic Tourism
Well, gastronomic tourism is sacred. Especially when the food is very hearty and the portions are large.
Khachapuri
Khachapuri is a classic of Georgian cuisine. It's a boat-shaped dough filled with cheese and an egg. If desired, you can ask for the dish to be less salty or vice versa. The price per piece is 8–12 Lari (which is about 240–360 rubles).
Khinkali
Even those who haven't been to Georgia have certainly heard of khinkali (and sometimes even tried them). Minced meat is placed in thinly rolled dough. Then the dish is cooked and served hot with various sauces. The price of pleasure is 2 Lari per piece (which is about 40–79 rubles). However, fewer than five are usually not ordered.
Churchkhela
A traditional sweet, whose fame has spread beyond Georgia. It's based on nuts, grape juice, and corn flour. Sometimes churchkhela can be bought right in the park for 1–2 Lari (which is about 70 rubles).
Pkhali
A distinctive appetizer, consisting of a patty whose main ingredient is beetroot or spinach. Pkhali is served with meat dishes for 7–14 Lari (from 250 to 520 rubles).
Ostri
Ostri is a popular Georgian meat dish that can be found in almost any restaurant. It's based on beef stewed in its own juice with vegetables and spices. You can try it for 18 Lari (660 rubles).
Wine Tourism
People go to Georgia for three reasons: beautiful views, generous portions, and… wine. Yes, and so you don't have to rack your brain (or browser search) wondering where to go in Georgia to try local drinks, save our article. We'll tell you everything. However, we remind you that excessive alcohol consumption is harmful to your health.
Kakheti
In the east, in Kakheti, over 70% of Georgian wines are made. About 80 varieties of them are artisanal. Rkatsiteli and Tsinandali are particularly popular and are served chilled.
Imereti
The most popular wine of Imereti is Tsitska-Tsolikouri, which resulted from combining two different grape varieties. It is delicate, pleasant, and almost airy in taste. It's best to buy this one to take home.
Batumi
In general, Batumi produces a large number of popular varieties. However, Tsolikouri and Chkhaveri are common among them. These are tasted at “Shavishvili Wine House,” and they are slightly sour to the taste.
What to see in Georgia in three days
Entry rules for Georgia allow tourists to stay in the country for a full 360 days. If you don't have much time and spending it traveling to mountain peaks isn't your option, we've prepared a three-day itinerary.
Since time is limited, we recommend making the most of it. On the first day after your trip or flight, go for a walk around the city (depending on which one you chose). Get acquainted with the bustling streets and local architecture. For example, in Tbilisi, you can take a stroll through Rike Park. It features modern architecture, neat lawns, and beautiful views.
Spend the second day exploring the historical part of the country. Head to Mtskheta to see religious attractions and mountain peaks firsthand. It's only a 30-minute drive, but there's also an option to take a marshrutka from Didube metro station.
And on the third day, indulge in wine tasting in Kakheti. You can get there by taxi or minibus. It will cost about 1,000–1,500 rubles, but your acquaintance with Georgia will be much richer.
If you chose Batumi at the beginning of your journey, we strongly recommend visiting the Botanical Garden and exploring the Black Sea.
What to see in Georgia in a week
Let's take the capital, Tbilisi, as our starting point. Here it's the same: a walk through Rike or Vake Park, getting acquainted with the city, and tasting the best dishes.
On the second day, go to Mtskheta or Uplistsikhe. These are important historical and religious sites where a guide will definitely be needed. You'll agree, when you know the past of a particular attraction, traveling becomes even more interesting.
The picturesque city of Gori and its memorable sites can be seen on the third day. On the fourth, visit Okatse Canyon, where there are hanging bridges and waterfalls. An excellent spot for your photos!
On the fifth and sixth days, rent a car from Gudauri to Gareji. Along the way, a large number of attractions await you: Gergeti Trinity Church, offering views of Mount Kazbek, Pasanauri – the birthplace of khinkali, and the Zhinvali Reservoir.
And you can conclude your journey in Kakheti: tasting wines and strolling through cozy streets. There, we recommend visiting Sighnaghi Fortress. To experience, so to speak, the vibe of “Georgian San Marino.”
Tips for Tourists

- Car rental is a popular service in Georgia. Don't neglect it if you need to get somewhere. In some cases, it might even be cheaper than a taxi.
- Don't forget to bring souvenirs from abroad. Cheese, churchkhela, or a bottle of wine would be excellent options. Look for treats at the market, and buy wine at wineries.
- Don't be afraid to bargain, as prices can sometimes be inflated for tourists.
- We recommend starting your acquaintance with Tbilisi – it is the capital after all.
