Tyumen Thermal Springs: Hot Springs of Siberia
When we think of open-air swimming, our imagination paints tropics, palm trees, and cocktails with umbrellas. But Russia has its own, harsh and beautiful way. Imagine: outside, there's a biting frost, meter-high snowdrifts all around, your eyelashes instantly covered in hoarfrost, and you... are swimming in hot turquoise water, and you're warm!
Tyumen has officially received the status of 'Capital of Thermal Waters of Russia,' and this is not just a marketing ploy. Here, in the heart of Western Siberia, dozens of hot mineral springs gush from under the ground. This is the legacy of the ancient West Siberian Sea, which splashed here millions of years ago.
If you want to experience a unique temperature contrast, improve your health, and understand what a real Siberian spa is like, this guide is for you.

Why Tyumen?
The geology of the region is unique. The water in the springs is not just hot (from +36 to +48°C), it is highly mineralized. Its composition often surpasses the famous waters of Baden-Baden in Germany or Karlovy Vary in the Czech Republic. It is saturated with bromine, iodine, iron, and salts, which makes bathing not only pleasant but also therapeutic.
Plus logistics: Tyumen is quite easy to reach. Just buy tickets from Moscow to Tyumen, and after a 2.5-hour flight, you're there.
Top 5 Thermal Complexes in Tyumen
There are about 20 thermal resorts operating in the region – from luxurious spa hotels to budget-friendly recreation centers. We have selected the top five.
LetoLeto
The largest and most modern thermal resort in the Urals and Western Siberia. It's a huge water park connected to a luxurious spa area.
- Feature: the hot spring here is refined to the maximum. It's a large open-air pool with jacuzzis, waterfalls, and a swim-up bar (pool bar). The water here is mineral, but undergoes additional purification, so it is clear and has no strong odor.
- For whom: for families with children (there's a water park) and lovers of 5-star comfort.
- Infrastructure: hotel, restaurants, dozens of saunas and baths.

Verkhniy Bor
A legendary recreation center, with which many associate Tyumen's springs. It is located in an ancient pine forest on the shore of a lake.
- Feature: there are two thermal pools here. One is in the "Istochnik" spa hotel (more intimate), the second is in the "Open Thermal Pool" hotel complex (a huge basin of 400 sq. m). Swimming among snow-covered pines is a special aesthetic pleasure.
- Water: very rich, has a characteristic salty taste and amber hue.
- Infrastructure: cottages, ice rink, ski track, slides.

Avan Country Club
Located in the village of Kamenka. This place has a masculine character and rustic charm.
- Feature: very powerful hydromassage jets ("cannons") that perfectly massage the back. The water here is one of the most highly mineralized in the region, dense and hot (around +45°C).
- Atmosphere: there's a wood-fired banya, an ice-cold plunge pool for contrast, and gazebos for barbecues.
- For whom: for fun companies and those who want something "hotter".

Volna
A modern complex within the city limits, positioning itself as a place for relaxation and wellness.
- Feature: the water purification system here allows retaining beneficial microelements while removing turbidity. The pool is equipped with multi-colored lighting, creating a cosmic atmosphere in the evening.
- Bonus: an excellent bath complex with a hammam, salt cave, and ice room.

Sovetskiy
This spring (on the 35th km of the Salairsky tract) was "wild" for a long time, but has now turned into a full-fledged resort, retaining its natural power.
- Feature: the water here gushes directly from the depths; it has a specific reddish color due to its high iron content ("living rust," as locals joke, but for joints, it's a panacea). The water temperature is very high, reaching +48°C, so it's impossible to stay in it for long.
- Experience: this is the most "authentic" experience. You feel the smell of the earth's depths and the planet's heat.

Safety Rules
Thermal waters are a potent procedure. To ensure your vacation doesn't end up at the doctor's, follow these simple rules:
- Watch your time. Do not stay in hot mineral water for longer than 15-20 minutes per session. Take a break, drink some tea, cool down, and only then re-enter.
- Protect your head. Your body should be in hot water, but your head in the cold. Be sure to wear a hat (wool or banya hat) to avoid blood vessel spasms from temperature changes. Absolutely do not wet your hair in -20°C frost.
- Remove silver. The water contains many active substances that will instantly blacken silver jewelry. Gold reacts more calmly, but it's better to remove it too.
What to do afterward?
Tyumen in winter is not just about swimming. It's about gastronomy and history.
- Go to Tobolsk. The ancient capital of Siberia is a 3-hour drive away. There stands the only white-stone Kremlin in Siberia, stunning in its beauty. A visit to Tobolsk will perfectly complement your trip.
- Taste the North. In Tyumen's restaurants (for example, "Chum"), you must order stroganina from muksun or nelma, venison dumplings, and cedar nut tincture.
What to bring
- Swimsuit (preferably one you don't mind getting stained, as mineral salts can slightly change the color of fabric, especially light-colored ones).
- Rubber slippers (to run from the changing room to the water across snow or a warm floor).
- Warm hat (without it, you might not even be allowed into the pool).
- Robe (some complexes provide them, but your own is cozier).
A trip to Tyumen in winter is a paradigm shift. It's an opportunity to prove to yourself that cold isn't scary, and Siberian health isn't a myth, but the result of proper rest. Pack your swimsuits and down jackets in one suitcase – Siberia awaits!
