Smartavia Baggage and Hand Luggage Rules

Smartavia will take you to warm Sochi, take you north to Murmansk or Arkhangelsk, or send you to see Yekaterinburg or Novosibirsk. The airline's flights connect many points on the map, so you can easily find, for example, suitable tickets for the Moscow – Tyumen route. And we will tell you how to properly pack your baggage and hand luggage for your trip to comply with all established rules and regulations.

Smartavia Hand Luggage Requirements

The airline's fare structure is simple and clear, without complications: there are three options – Smart Light, Smart, and Smart Pro. The first includes only hand luggage, while the other two allow you to take checked baggage. The dimensions and weight of hand luggage are also the same for all three fares – 40x30x20 cm and no more than 10 kg.

The size and weight of your hand luggage will be checked twice – first at the check-in counter, and then again before boarding. For this, Smartavia has a sizer: items must fit into it easily, without effort, and the lid must close freely.

Additionally, the following can be carried as standard in addition to hand luggage:

• an umbrella or walking-stick umbrella;
• seasonal outerwear;
• a bouquet of flowers that will not disturb other passengers;
• a bag with food purchased in the sterile area (boarding area) for a snack during the flight;
• medicinal preparations and special dietary products in the quantity necessary for the duration of the flight (you may be asked for a certificate confirming the need to carry these preparations);
• Duty Free items in a sealed plastic bag. Dimensions – no more than 30x25x7 cm, and weight – no more than 2 kg;
• photo or video equipment, one set with dimensions no more than 40x30x20 cm;
• a laptop in a case or bag, or without a case/bag, with dimensions 55x40x7 cm;
• baby food;
• a lady's handbag, backpack, or briefcase. Dimensions – no more than 30x25x7 cm, weight – no more than 3 kg;
• a suit in a garment bag. Placing other items inside it is prohibited;
• for passengers under 12 years old – a children's toy, doll, car, no larger than 55x40x20 cm;
• a child restraint device – bassinet, car seat, child restraint systems for children under two years old, baby stroller, and other transport devices that comply with hand luggage regulations. They can be placed on the shelf above the seat or under the seat in front. Restraint devices must be certified;
• a cane, crutches, or wheelchair, as well as walkers, rollators, folding wheelchairs used by the passenger during travel. The size of these devices must allow them to be safely placed on the shelf above the passenger seat or under the seat in front.

If your bag exceeds these parameters, it will have to be checked as baggage. Another option is to purchase an additional hand luggage allowance. This can be done on the carrier's website, at sales offices, through the call center, during online check-in, or directly at the airport. The cost depends on the method and time of purchase: through the call center or on the website, an additional hand luggage allowance over 10 kg costs from 2,890 ₽, at sales offices – from 3,300 ₽, and at the check-in counter, exceeding the norm will cost 5,500 ₽.

An additional allowance for Duty Free items up to 2 kg costs 1,000 ₽, as does the transportation of photo or video equipment with dimensions exceeding 40x30x20 cm, but no more than 55x40x20 cm.

Carriage of Liquids in Hand Luggage

Cosmetics, food products, and liquid medications can be brought on board, but it is important that their containers are no more than 100 ml, and the total volume of all liquids does not exceed 1 liter. The airline recommends packing them in a transparent plastic bag with a zipper.

Baggage Transportation on Smartavia Flights

The weight of allowed baggage also depends on the fare. Smart includes one piece weighing up to 10 kg, Smart Pro – up to 23 kg.

Baggage must fit within the parameters of “width + length + height – no more than 203 cm”. The suitcase must not contain items prohibited for carriage (standard list – nothing flammable, toxic, explosive, and so on). Additionally, no extra bundles should be taped to the outside of the suitcase.

Children under two years old, not occupying a separate seat on board, receive one piece of baggage up to 10 kg, with dimensions (sum of three measurements) no more than 115 cm. Passengers with children under 12 years old can check a child's 3- or 4-wheeled bicycle, scooter or balance bike, or baby stroller free of charge. Passengers with reduced mobility check a wheelchair as baggage if its size does not allow it to be carried as hand luggage.

On the Smartavia website, you will be asked to pay extra for exceeding the number of pieces:

• Excess baggage up to 10 kg – from 1,690 ₽
• Excess baggage up to 23 kg – from 2,690 ₽
• Excess baggage over 23 kg, but not more than 32 kg – from 6,380 ₽

At the call center, prices for exceeding the number of pieces are the same. Exceeding the weight of one piece of baggage included in the free baggage allowance:

• Over 10 kg, but not more than 23 kg – from 2,700 ₽
• Over 23 kg, but not more than 32 kg – from 3,700 ₽
• Over 32 kg, but not more than 50 kg – from 7,400 ₽

At sales offices and agencies, prices vary.

Exceeding the number of pieces:

• Excess baggage up to 10 kg – from 2,700 ₽
• Excess baggage up to 23 kg – from 3,700 ₽
• Excess baggage over 23 kg, but not more than 32 kg – from 6,380 ₽

Exceeding the weight of one piece of baggage included in the free baggage allowance for Smart fare:

• Over 10 kg, but not more than 23 kg – from 2,700 ₽
• Over 23 kg, but not more than 32 kg – from 5,400 ₽

Exceeding the weight of one piece of baggage included in the free baggage allowance for Smart Pro fare:

• Over 23 kg, but not more than 32 kg – from 3,700 ₽
• Over 32 kg, but not more than 50 kg – from 7,400 ₽

Exceeding the dimensions of a piece included in the free baggage allowance, by the sum of three measurements:

• Over 203 cm, by agreement with the Airline – from 3,700 ₽

Transportation of Sports Equipment

The bicycle's weight is included in the baggage allowance for the fare. This means that only the bicycle can be transported as free baggage. Other baggage can be transported for an additional fee. Dimensions are measured: equipment must not exceed the weight and dimensions of baggage included in the fare.	Free only for fares with baggage. For Smart Light group fares, a bicycle is always transported for a fee.
Hockey equipment Checked as baggage provided that: – packed in covers; – occupies no more than two pieces, for example: a bag with equipment and a bag with sticks or a pair of skates.	No more than 23 kg. The equipment's weight is included in the baggage allowance for the fare. This means that only hockey equipment can be transported as free baggage. Other baggage can be transported for an additional fee. Dimensions are measured: equipment must not exceed the weight and dimensions of baggage included in the fare.	Free only for fares with baggage. For Smart Light group fares, hockey equipment is always transported for a fee.
Fishing rods, spinning rods, and other fishing equipment	Up to 23 kg. The equipment's weight is included in the baggage allowance for the fare. This means that only fishing equipment can be transported as free baggage. Other baggage can be transported for an additional fee. Dimensions are not measured.	Free only for fares with baggage. For Smart Light group fares, such equipment is transported for a fee.
Other sports equipment For example, an adult scooter, golf equipment, helmets, sports and motorcycle helmets, etc.	The equipment's weight is included in the baggage allowance for the fare. This means that only this equipment can be transported as free baggage. Other baggage can be transported for an additional fee. Dimensions are measured: equipment must not exceed the weight and dimensions of baggage included in the fare.	Free only for fares with baggage. For Smart Light group fares, it is transported for a fee.

Rules for Excess Baggage Transportation

If your baggage exceeds several established parameters at once, the fee for each excess will be cumulative – for the number of pieces, for weight, and for dimensions.
