The castle is located in southern Germany, near the border with Austria. It was built by order of King Ludwig II of Bavaria in 1883.

How to get to Neuschwanstein Castle? 

Neuschwanstein Castle is located in the town of Hohenschwangau in Bavaria.

The nearest airport in Germany is Munich, 110 km away. Flights to Munich are operated by: Air Berlin, Sibir, Rossiya, Aeroflot, as well as Air Baltic with a layover in Riga. By horse-drawn carriage. The carriage departs from Müller Hotel. Fare: € 6.00 for the ascent to the castle and €3.00 for the descent back to the town. 3. Please note that the carriage and bus do not take you directly to the castle entrance; you will still have to walk 10-15 minutes to it.

Most tourists come to Hohenschwangau for one day, but if you want to visit the neighboring Hohenschwangau Castle, as well as the Museum of the Bavarian Kings, it's worth staying here for at least one more day. The closest hotel to the castle is Hotel Mueller, from where carriages depart to the castle. The cost of accommodation there is € 140.00 per night.
