How to get from the airport to the city?
When planning an independent trip, especially for the first time, almost everyone faces the problem of getting to and from the airport.
If you are willing to pay for a taxi, then naturally, there are no problems for you, but not everyone can afford it. How do you get from the airport to the city by public transport?
Let's consider route planning using the example of Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris.
The first thing we need to do is go to the official airport website: www.aeroportsdeparis.fr. If your English or French isn't very good, you can switch to the Russian version of the site, but unfortunately, it doesn't provide all the information.
So, we are interested in the section "Getting to the airport",
which may also be called:
On other airport websites, you may find the following names for this section:
By clicking on any line or vehicle name, we will go to a page with detailed information about it (schedule, cost, stops, etc.)
The choice of a specific route depends on the hotel's location. In our example, we need to get to the hotel Tingis Hôtel (2 Rue Emile Level). Google Maps will help us here. We enter the hotel's address into the search bar,
and get a map of the hotel's location.
As we can see, the hotel is located between the Porte de Clichy and Brochant metro stations, but neither of them is on the airport transport route map.
By clicking on the metro icon on the map, we will get information about metro and RER lines from our station:
In this case, the Les Cars Air France bus is ideal for us; it stops at Porte Maillot station, where RER line C also runs:
Thus, by taking the metro, we can get to the hotel without transfers. Air France buses run every 20-30 minutes and cost 17 euros.
This is not the cheapest option, as the fare for Roissybus is only 10 euros. If saving 7 euros on one trip is important to you, then confidently choose Roissybus. They run frequently and stop at Opera metro station. In this case, we need to take metro line M3, go to PEREIRE station, and transfer to RER C, travel just 1 stop, and we'll be there.
Google Maps will also help us find the fastest way from the metro station to the hotel. In our example, the hotel is right next to the metro, but it's not always that lucky, and often you have to plan your route in advance.
We will need the "Directions" tab.
In point A, enter the name of the metro station, in point B - the hotel address, and click on the person icon, as we will be walking.
Google will map out the entire route and even provide text directions:
That's it! To avoid getting lost, print out the map and take it with you.
P.S. Ordinary city buses run to many European airports. For example, in the case of Charles de Gaulle, these are buses 350 and 351, but they make quite a few stops along the way, and in our example, they would require two metro transfers, although they only cost 5 euros.
