Digital Nomads: Countries Issuing Digital Nomad Visas and Their Equivalents for Remote Work

We have compiled a selection of countries where you can get a digital nomad visa or its equivalents to try living abroad. Let's go!

Hungary
In this country, you can obtain a White Card if you meet the following conditions:
- official income — minimum 3,000 € per month after tax, confirmed within six months;
- employment: you must be officially employed in countries other than the EU and Hungary, or be a self-employed entrepreneur outside the European Union;
- White Card validity period — one year. It can be extended for another year;
- the visa is issued for a specific person — family members must be included separately;
- accommodation — you will need a rental agreement, proof of property ownership in Hungary, or a confirmed hotel reservation for the duration of your stay in the country.
What are the advantages of the White Card:
- you will be able to travel freely within Schengen countries for up to 90 days within every 180-day period;
- relatively low taxes in the country.

Germany
Germany issues an equivalent to the digital nomad visa — a visa for freelancers. Let's go through its conditions:
- official monthly income does not need to be confirmed, but you must have at least 12,000 € in your account;
- the visa is valid from three months to three years;
- visa application fee — 100 €;
- your activity must be suitable for the country's needs. For example, IT specialists, artists, writers, foreign language teachers;
- to apply for the visa, you must have a rental agreement.
Advantages of the visa:
- low income taxes for freelancers;
- you can bring your family after three months of stay in the country;
- there is an opportunity to apply for permanent residency after three years of stay in Germany.

Greece
Also a great option for those who want to spend more time by the sea — the digital nomad visa in Greece.
Conditions for obtaining:
- you must be employed or be an entrepreneur outside of Greece;
- minimum monthly income — at least 3,500 € per month after tax. If you come with family, this amount increases — by 20% for a spouse and by 15% for each child;
- medical insurance will be required for the entire duration of your stay in Greece;
- rental agreement or proof of property ownership.

- free movement within Schengen countries for up to 90 days within each 180-day period;
- availability of tax benefits for freelancers;
- comfortable climate for living with children.

Spain
The requirements for the Spanish digital nomad visa will be a bit stricter, but imagine how great life will be. Conditions for application:
- remote work or business outside of Spain;
- income must be at least twice the minimum interprofessional salary (SMI). For 2025, the SMI is 1184 € per month. For family freelancers, this coefficient increases;
- confirmed qualification — higher education diploma/at least three years of experience;
- medical insurance that covers the entire duration of your stay in Spain;
- rental agreement or proof of property ownership.
Advantages of the Spanish visa:
- issued for a minimum of one year with the possibility of extension;
- after the visa expires, you can try to apply for a residence permit;

Italy
If you want pasta, pizza, and to get things done in a sunny atmosphere, you can try applying for a digital nomad visa in Italy:
- you need to work for a company outside Italy or have your own business somewhere outside the country;
- minimum income — 2,700 €;
- you will also need savings of 30,000 €;
- you will need to confirm that you have been working for the company for at least six months;
- the good old rental agreement or an agreement confirming property ownership in Italy.
Advantages of the Italian nomad visa:
- after five years of continuous residence, you can apply for permanent residency;
- simplified visa application, as there are no quotas;
- access to the Italian healthcare system and social services;

Malta
You can also head to Malta if you have a Nomad Residence Permit. Here's what you need to do to get this visa:
- remote work/own business outside Malta. All standard here;
- minimum monthly income of at least 3,500 €;
- proof of income through bank statements for the last three months;
- medical insurance that covers the entire duration of your stay in Malta;
- rental agreement or property ownership;
- no criminal record.
What are the advantages of the Malta visa?
- the visa is issued for 12 months. It can be extended for up to four years;
- leniency towards family freelancers — in Malta, the minimum income amount is not increased if you come with family;
- tax benefits for businessmen and freelancers.

UAE
Want something expensive, warm, and always surrounded by compatriots? Then you can head to the United Arab Emirates! Here are the conditions:
- visa cost — 600 $. The visa is issued for one year;
- having a business or a remote work contract outside the UAE. You will be asked for documents confirming employment with a company for at least one year, or company ownership papers with financial reports;
- medical insurance that covers the entire duration of your stay in the Emirates;
- bank statements showing income for the next three months.
Advantages of the digital nomad visa in the UAE:
- access to banking services — you can open cards and accounts in the country;
- possibility to extend the visa;
- personal income is not taxed.

Turkey
Perhaps one of the most sought-after countries for digital nomads is Turkey. If you planned to go there to live with a nomad visa, you need to meet the following conditions:
- be an adult (but not too old) — the visa is issued to people aged 21 to 55;
- minimum monthly income must be 3,000 $;
- a diploma confirming higher education is required;
- you must have worked at your current job (which, by the way, must be outside Turkey) for at least three months.
