Imagine a place where the history of the harsh northern seas and brave traders comes to life. The Jekt Trade Museum (Jektefartsmuseet) is a unique cultural center in the city of Bodø, which opened its doors in 2019. Situated on the shores of a bay surrounded by majestic mountains, it has become the home for the only surviving vessel of its kind—the jekt Anna Karoline.

The museum's centerpiece—a cargo sailing ship built in 1876—is striking in its scale. Norway depended on these ships for centuries as they transported dried cod and cod liver oil south, returning with flour, salt, and luxury goods. The museum building is designed not only to protect the fragile wooden hull of the ship but also to give visitors the feeling of being in a bustling 19th-century port.
The museum's exhibits tell the story of maritime trade's significance for the survival of the Salten region and the entire northern part of the country. It is not just a collection of artifacts but an interactive space where the spirit of coastal culture, connecting small northern villages with major European markets, is conveyed through sounds, smells, and visual imagery.
