In the heart of the historic Barrio Escalante district, in the city of San José, lies one of the country's most significant cultural spaces — the Dr. Rafael Ángel Calderón Guardia Museum. This museum is dedicated to the life and reformist work of the prominent president, whose social transformations in the 1940s forever shaped the face of modern Costa Rica.
The museum building itself is a unique exhibit: an elegant mansion built in 1912 from French adobe, which is rare for this region. Formerly a presidential residence and now recognized as a national monument, it covers 800 square meters and impresses with its architectural sophistication and preserved interiors from the beginning of the last century.

Today, it is not just a repository for historical artifacts, but a living cultural center under the Ministry of Culture. The museum combines historical halls, a modern art gallery, and a rich library, offering visitors free admission and a chance to experience key moments in the development of Costa Rican democracy and social justice.
