Proper baggage preparation is the key to a stress-free start to your journey. Hunnu Air (MR) offers passengers transparent and reasonably generous baggage rules; however, they may vary depending on the aircraft type and your ticket fare. Since the company's fleet includes both jet Embraer and turboprop ATR aircraft, hand luggage weight requirements require special attention.
Below are the key aspects of the baggage policy that will help you avoid unnecessary hassle at the airport, whether you are heading to Ulaanbaatar or flying in transit.
Hand Luggage: What you can take into the cabin
Hand luggage allowances at Hunnu Air depend directly on the type of aircraft operating the flight. This is due to the size of the overhead bins in the cabin.
- Weight: The standard allowance is usually up to 5 kg for flights operated by ATR 72 aircraft, and may be increased up to 10 kg on Embraer E190 jet liners.
- Dimensions: Bag dimensions must not exceed 55x40x20 cm so that it fits freely on the shelf or under the seat in front.
- Additional Items: Over and above the established allowance, passengers may carry a ladies' handbag, men's briefcase, laptop in a case, or camera free of charge.
Checked Baggage
Most airline fares include a free baggage allowance. This is particularly convenient for those flying via Beijing and planning to bring purchases or souvenirs. The calculation system is the Weight Concept, which means a limit on total weight rather than the number of bags.
- Economy Class: Generally, passengers are permitted to check in up to 20 kg of baggage.
- Business Class: Premium class passengers can expect an increased allowance of up to 30 kg.
- Infants (without a seat): For children under 2 years old, 10 kg of free baggage plus a collapsible stroller are usually provided.
If you are departing from the city of Almaty or another international airport, we recommend checking the information on your itinerary receipt in advance, as conditions may differ for promo fares.
Excess Baggage and Special Cargo
If your items exceed the established weight or dimension limits, an additional fee will be required. Excess weight rates (per kilogram) depend on the flight destination and are paid at the check-in counter in the currency of the departure country.
Sports Equipment and Musical Instruments:
- Skis, snowboards, bicycles, and golf bags are included in the free baggage allowance if the total weight (suitcase + equipment) does not exceed your fare limit. If the weight is exceeded, standard excess weight fees apply.
- Large musical instruments (e.g., a cello) carried in the cabin require booking an extra seat (CBBG) and payment according to the applicable fare.
Prohibited Items and Restrictions
For safety reasons, the airline strictly regulates the carriage of certain items. Some items may only be carried in hand luggage, while others must be checked in.
- Strictly Prohibited: Explosives, compressed gases, flammable liquids, corrosive substances.
- Hand Luggage Only: Power banks, spare lithium batteries, electronic cigarettes, and lighters. Checking these items in baggage is strictly prohibited due to fire risk.
- Liquids in Cabin: In containers of no more than 100 ml, packed in a single transparent bag with a volume of up to 1 litre.
Tips for Effective Packing
To ensure a smooth flight, weigh your suitcases at home before leaving for the airport. Always place valuables, documents, medication, and keys in your hand luggage. If you are carrying fragile items in checked baggage, ensure reliable protection (bubble wrap, hard-shell suitcase) and ask for a "Fragile" sticker at check-in, although this does not guarantee complete safety during automatic sorting.
